Chambers was the government s key witness against Hiss former High state department official convicted last week of lying when he denied passing secret documents to a prewar communist spy ring. Chambers Stid he was a courier for that ring. He also admitted that he too had lied in some of his testimony which led to the indict ment and trial of Hiss. The Justice department steadfastly refused to discuss the Cham Bers Case but a spokesman said no immune ill was Ever promised Chambers. Gertrude Edwards said mrs. Edwards editor of the society s bulletin said she suspected More persons knew the meaning of euthanasia today than Ever be fore.
