   European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - July 1, 1959, Darmstadt, Hesse                                7 school s out and there s time to work study or relax. By Joe Mcbride staff writer this group of Young hungarian students escaped when soviet terror swept their Homeland now. They re building a future in the free worlds a photos by Guenter Schuettler the future looks a lot brighter today for Endro s. And Alada k. Than it did nearly three years ago when they watched soviet troops machine gun their countrymen in the streets of Budapest during the hungarian uprising. Endro and Alada managed to escape to Freedom. Today along with 55 other hungarians they attend classes at the Darm Stadt Germany technical Institute. Endro 27, is studying to be a construction Engineer and when he gets his diploma in 1960, he looks Forward to going to Australia to find work in his , 26, is a chemistry student. When he graduates in 1960 he plans to go to Canada or Finland to put his knowledge to use in the paper Industry. Endro Alada and the 55 other Hun Garian students attending the Darmstadt school Are supported by the German government. As upperclassmen Endro and Alada receive 200 Marks a month lower Lassen get 150 Marks. Out of this they must pay for their rooms32 Marks ?7.g5 a month food lunch in the school cafeteria costs just under a Quarter and clothing. To supplement the monthly allowance both students work Par time. Endro is a waiter while Alada secures work through the student Union at the school and takes any Job he can get. Their school Day begins at 8 30 am with classroom instruction. Depending upon the course the afternoon is Given Over to More practical experience. Endro s group May visit a local construction site to get a first hand look at the operation while Alada might take a closer look at the paper Industry. The school Day ends at 5 pm. Saturday and sunday Are free giving the students a Chance to earn some extra Money study or just relax. To keep their hungarian ties and a link with Home the students have formed a hungarian German club. Local merchant helped in making the place More Homey by donating furniture rugs drapes another household items.
