It has just been completed and it involved placing the ammunition on pierced steel planking. The planking was not Laid Flat As in the Normal manner for temporary runways. Instead it was found that three sections could be fitted together Ina triangular form. The boxed ammunition is thus High above the ground on durable permanent , nearly nine j ears after its activation would certainly Shock and sur prise the members of the 7711th trans in the Advance party that arrived in a truck to set up the ordnance depot planned Cor the site in 1950. The present installation area consisted then of a collection of bombed out Barracks and other building shells relics of a world War ii French air Force training and operating station. I it was fall and the Rainy season had begun and although the Camp site had not been completely organized the am munition had began to arrive. It had to be stored so Crews worked around the clock seven Days a week. It was months before the work Load eased and efforts could be directed toward improvement sin living conditions. Today the picture has changed. The local basketball team last season was the base Section Champion and its Home games were played in the depot s own gymnasium. Rehabilitation and construction also has resulted in a new school a movie theater for 250, Bowling Alley pm club and a variety of other recreation and athletic Community building additional Ware houses another rail Spur and Concrete igloos to replace the present storage hut ments Are planned for the future. From a Rainy Muddy beginning almost nine year Sago the depot has evolved into a neatly operated families in government hous ing live in Bazar and the town of Capri eur both a few Miles to the North on the Road to Bordeaux.
