It Isnow famous for its annual presentation of the play Goetz von Berlic Hingen a absorbing tale of medieval Days written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe the great German playwright and poet. Goethe indulging in the poetic License of the dramatist created a picture of Vonberlichin Gen As a great Patriot some thing of a Robin Hood and a Man Strug gling with the question of ius Tiee and conscience. The play differs greatly from the actual life of the grim  Berlic Hingen s real life was a Stormy one. In the play although a Noble he struggles with the problem of betraying his own class and championing the cause of the  common people had a custom by which they tried their enemies in  used that weapon in a series of rebellions. It apparently served its purpose while the revolts were in Progress bit As peace came and the Barons continued to plunder and oppress the people looked around for a deliverer.
