He was sentenced to death by the nazis opponents of the nazis charged that Goering had sent a gang to set fire to the Reich Stag in a dozen different places. The were said to have used the Tunnel from Goering s Palace now in the soviet Sec Tor to enter the cellars and to escape after the fires broke out. Hitler never repaired the Reich Stag. He moved his puppet parliament into the nearby Kroll opera House. The fire blackened ruin remained a Monument to the democracy that had perished i Germany. The Reich Stag was further damaged by Allied bombing and soviet hellfire during the War. When the russians captured Ber Lin they thought the building was the nazi Kremlin ignoring the opera House where the Hitler government met an planted a red Flag on its sagging dome. Today the names of thousand Russia soldiers written on the Marble inside the Reich Stag building still remain. During the hungry postwar years Ablack Market Center sprung up in front of the building. Some of the Metal sold there was stolen from the building by thieves who had stripped it Bare. Finally the weakened dome which will not be.
