She s Only 5 feet 3 2 inches tall but her regal bearing combined with theatrical Emi Nence Lead fans to expect a much taller woman. I Don t know Why it is said the longtime actress whose Hollywood c h a r t dates Back As far or perhaps farther than any other Active member of the screen Colony. Somehow the press always referred to me As a movie Queen because i tried to dress the part i guess. Actually i m much More like the person i play in this she was referring to the role of Joan Crawford which she enacted for an Epi Sode of the Lucy during taping of the show Joan and Lucy and an other guest Star Vivian Vance enjoyed some reminiscing sessions in Hollywood. During most of my Early Days i Hollywood Mem built me up As any thing but the girl next door Type she recalled. I was the elegant Dresser who never would be seen even at tieback door in Slacks or sweaters. But in this show it s All different. Lucy an Vivian come to my Home and find me in Slacks and dusting the m no Queen. I started out As a Hoofer in a Broadway chorus line Andy hard work and a lot of Luck became what i Hope i can Call an possibly that combination of strength ambition and the faculty of knowing what she wants gives the impression of increased physical stature she concedes. In the 1920s, when actor were nurtured slowly and carefully to stardom Joan made the marquee rating in less than two years. One outstanding Crawford characteristic is frankness and this often has Joan Crawford from Hoofer to movie Queen. Brought her trouble. She is never at loss for an answer and she can ques Tion quite piercingly too. And since she subscribes to a clipping service her grievance could be heard by the reporter Only hours after publication. She has Seldom barred correspondent from her sets. If she is nursing a com plaint she prefers to Tongue lash the miscreant writer to his face then forget the whole thing and be cordial again. The two hour wait on the set for provocative Light adjustment was telling on Joan who makes Only rare appear ances on to and has fought off All Over Tures to try a series. The Long Waits still bother this Veteran who says she does her Best acting on the first few Days of shooting because her poise and composure Are All on the outside.
