Com z and the 3rd div Hadron the first and second half titles respectively in Theu Sarteur double round Robin eliminations to set the stage for their Best of three series. The big Blue won the first Gam tuesday night but the Marne men came Back on thursday to Force things right Down to the wire. And the big Blue took the championship with the tournament s leading scorer and one fits top Rebo unders Burly de Smith Riding the Bench. He incurred a knee injury in the wan ing seconds of the first half of thursday s game and although he played the entire second Hal of that game was not dressed for the finale. Good teamwork but realizing they did t hav smitty to fall Back on if things got Tough the other com z Cag ers won the title with a magnificent display of teamwork. Bento turned in his Best performance of the tournament with a spectacular 32-Point performance. Walt Moody Drew the Gigantic task of filling smitty s shoes scoring 11 Points and turning income Sterling rebounding. Chuck Washington Herb Edwards and Bob Lohse also abetted the scor ing cause handsomely and cur Crittendon turned in a Sharp floor game and some stingy defens before leaving via the foul route with 7 08 left in the game.3rd div jumped off to a 7-1 Lead and seemed to been route to possible runaway right off the Bat but com z look a timeout to Stem the tide and came Back to knot the count at 15-15, Only to fall right Back into a five Point deficit. On Civ again the big Blue fought Back to gain a 25-24 Lead. The Lead change hands for the next four Points. Then com z went to Tow with a dazzle dazzle performance featuring Benton Edward Sand Lohse and opened up a 44-32 half time margin most of the scoring came off fast Breaks or fancy passes that left the shooter virtually  big Blue seemed headed for a Complete rout Early in the second half As Benton and Washington singed the nets and the champions advantage zoomed to 17 , the worm turned All of a sudden it was the 3rddiv, with big Vic Bender who tallied 31 Points and tiny Reggie Greene who added 27, doing most of the damage which forged tothe front the Gigantic Corn z Lead melted away like Snow in july and the Marne men move ahead 70-69, on Tom Gordon s twisting drive in with 9 02 show ing on the clock. A follow up 4 y Greene made it 72-69u but a wards hit a Hook and Crittendon banged one Home from the Side to Send big Blue one up again. I told the other Guys thai they d have to play their Best game of the year if we were go ing to be in the thick of things. And Wilder beamed proudly did they Ever do just that i la Tell you that was one of the greatest demonstrations of team work i have Ever seen. They got into trouble and fell behind a couple of times and things did t look too , they never knuckled under. They came fighting Back and Tsujimoto Kos baby Cassius Tokyo a Hidemori Tsujimoto ranking japanese lightweight knocked out baby Cassius of los Angeles at 1 min Ute 33 seconds of the seventh round thursday night. The Vic Tor weighed 134�/� pounds to 131for Cassius. Won the game. These boys Dis played some real coolness under pressure Ostyn com z hero Loston Benton who scored 32 Points turned in by far his Best game of the Campaign. He did about everything scored rebounded and set up the other Guys for Points and he turned in some Fine defensive work. And did t Walt Moody come through for us in grand fashion too he blocked a few shots grabbed Many key rebounds and scored11 Points or so. He really filled smitty s shoes pretty Well especially off the  praises others Wilder also lauded Herb Edwards for a Strong Board game Bob Lohse for some key Points Chuck Washington for his usual Strong scoring and Board contributions and Curt Crittendon for some Stellar defensive play. They All did what they had to do. Like i said before it was a tremendous display of team work. We re certainly proud to be Usa eur champions. The tournament was u Good one and we beat a very Good team inthe finals. That 3rd div squad has a few outstanding Ballplay ers Wilder concluded. Gordon fouled Benton and the com z hero calmly stepped to the line took aim and arched  despite the frenzy of the predominately 3rd div crowd. The Marne men took Lime out with 23 seconds and tried Coset up Aone shot play. Gordon took it and missed and mood scaled the Heights to greedily grab the carom. A my pass with four second left gave the Marne men one last Chance to Send the game  but they could t get a decent shot off against the rugged com z defense and when  hurriedly thrown up Moody once again soared High into the air to grab the rebound and the Victory.
