We had so much trouble keeping together Charles was in one place and i was i another i became a character actress and accepted lesser roles so i could bewitch him. Charles was very much the Star Andi was the feature player. Actually i m not terribly ambitious and i Don t think would have had a career without him. Charles was so Busy i Don t think he would have been Happy had i not Bee someone. I think he needed that not a Dull drab Homey  miss Lanchester is currently writ ing a Book about Laughton who died in 1962. They had been married 34 years. The Book is a marvelous project forme she says. I find myself living my life All Over again through  about her late husband miss Lanchester says Charles was a very Busy person. But he died feeling he never really achieved anything. He did Romany things perhaps Loo Many things teaching writing Art collecting plus his acting. It s sad he Felt that Way. But Charles really wanted to leave a s Cratch on the  the Book she Hopes will keep Laughton s memory  Lanchester expects to have the Book ready for publication in Early 1969,although she has t selected a publisher yet. She and coauthor Ned Hoopes have enough material for three fat volumes already. The Only material lacking she says is Laughton s personal Memorabilia. Charles was a wastepaper Baske filler she said. He threw away All his correspondence including All the letter from famous people. It is such a shame. The Only letter we have is one fro Anthony Eden praising Charles King Lear. Charles kept that one in his pocket All the time and that s where we  when the Book is completed miss Lanchester says she will begin accepting More acting roles mainly in films Andon television. I really Don t like the theater she said and i be done very Little of it. I Don t like run of the play contracts an learning All those lines. But mostly i Don t like having to do the same thin every night. It s degrading. I Don t even like going to the theater  she continued. It always raining and you can t get a taxi. I absolutely shall not go again until Heaters provide the patrons with Dis Posable slippers As the airlines do. I simply can t sit for three hours with  Mliss Lanchester however admits a fondness for one Type of theater vaudeville. Vaudeville was Complete realism she said. There you could really make people laugh it had a free and informal mood. I m happiest when i m making people laugh. I personally like being Happy i go to bed Happy and i get up Happy. It s physical. Happiness makes my skin feel smooth you feel All smoothed out if you re  one thing that makes miss Lanchester especially Happy is being recognized. Of course with her trademark frizzy red hair and bulb like eyes she is easily identified. I m  she admits. I Don t want to be forgotten. I love being  but even recognition has its draw backs. Miss Lanchester noted. The Bane of my life is when people dash up to me and scream. It s her it s Elsa Lancaster i m Lan Chester not Caster. I always say. Of you must mean Burt Lan Caster before Burt Lan Caster came along i did t have that problem at  of you must mean Burt Lan Caster.
