Perry joins classic group by Herschel Nissenson a sports writer Gaylord Perry admits he pitched against Jim Bunning. There is no truth to the Rumor that he also pitched against by Young but he now is in the record Book with them As the Only pitchers Ever to win 100 games in both major leagues. The 38-year-old right hander Winner of134 National league games recorded his 100th american league Triumph wednes Day night pitching the Texas rangers to a 6-3 Victory Over the Detroit tigers. I m tremendously flattered by joining the company of Jim Bunning and Yyoung Perry said. I pitched against Bunning in the National league and he was just super. Young was just great of relax folks Gaylord is just repeating what he has read in the baseball history worse than a Pitcher who in t winning. I knew i was just one line drive away from getting a Shower in the first inning but i was t about to give up. When i was warming up in the bullpen before the game i Felt really Good and i knew there was no reason for them to hit the pitches i was throwing. I just discarded my slow stuff and went to my hard stuff the last eight in Al Roundup books. Old by s last season was 1911, a few years before old Gaylord saw the Light of the Only other Al games the Chicago White sox downed the Kansas City royals 7-4 and the Milwaukee Brewers nipped the Toronto Blue jays 3-2 in 10 innings Box scores on Page 22. Perry fell behind 3-0 in the first inning allowing three of Detroit s six hits. But he steadied As the game progressed and re tired the last 18 batters. Meanwhile the rangers caught up with tigers starter John Miller in a five run fourth inning. John Ellis delivered the key hit a two run single spoiling Relief Ace Hiller s third Start in the last six years. Perry who also recorded his 2,700th major league strikeout he is sixth on the All time list said he wished the Victory had come three weeks earlier. I be been having my problems and no one feels Gaylord Perry. Tremendously flattered Perry said the Triumph ranked with his Oritter for san Francisco against St. Louis in 1968. Eric soderholm. Who had four singles and Ralph Garr also drove in runs in the big inning. Darrell Porter homered for Kansas City. Leonard said Gamble hit a High fast Ball inside. But it just was t inside enough. I thought it was going out of the place. It was headed for the roof and i said to myself just Don t let him Embarrass me by hitting it out of the entire Park " Brewers 3, Blue jays t Robin Yount s two out single in the 10th inning scored Sixto Lezcano with the win Ning run. Lezcano opened the inning with a single off reliever Pete Vuckovich Steve Brye sacrificed and von Joshua was intentionally walked. Vuckovich struck out Pinch hitter Mike Hegan but Yount delivered his third hit of the game scoring Lez had t been seeing the Ball Well said Yount who took extra batting practice tuesday night and was 3-for-31 going into wednesday night s game. I could t pick up the Ball out of the Pitcher s hand. I was t picking it up until it was on top of me. As a result i was swinging at a lot of bad pitches. I think it was a Lack of concentration and when you re not concentrating you pick up other bad habits. My concentration was better in a situation like that 10thinning when you know a hit Means a lot More. But then again the Pitcher probably concentrates More too so i Don t know if either one of us comes out runaway dodgers tip Phillies 6-4, on two run Homer by ailing Smith by Ken Rappoport a sports writer Reggie Smith almost did t Start be cause of a pregame Chat with Las Angeles dodgers manager Tom Lasorda. Then after a session with the dodgers Trainer he Felt even better and decided he wanted to Start after All. Smith s two run Homer in the seventh inning gave the dodgers a 6-3 Lead and sup plied reliever Charlie Hough with enough of a Cushion to withstand a Philadelphia uprising in the ninth. This is the Best Ball club i have Ever been with said Smith of the runaway dodgers who arc leading the National league West by a whopping 12 games Over Cincinnati. This club has it All out standing Speed pitching Power. It s he Best balanced club i be seen. It la be Tough for the reds to catch us with this Lead we be got.
