A 5.3-mile race through town through Woods up stairs and up up up. Fazio jr., organizer of the race was com Pany commander at the time and a Long distance runner. Fazio was a very Good runner so Good that he won the first two races. The Competition however is based on More than one Good runner. The Fust five officers and first five enlisted finishers in the race received Points calculated by Fin Ishing time and age of runner. The group with the most Points wins. The last two years the officers won. This year s race however was a year  it was the first year Fazio did t run. It was the first year the enlisted personnel won 258 Points to 249. It also waste first year the race was open to people outside of the 43rd. Runners attracted by the Challenge entered. People from other units entered. Members of the Mountain climbing club of the 649th engineers entered. Dod civilians entered. Germans entered. The youngest participant was 10. The oldest 51. Eighty four people took off at the Camp Bell Parade ground. Some were panting bythe time they got off Post. That was just the beginning the race continued through a Section of town then up a flight of  and Over several switchbacks that was the hardest pan of the  said second place Winner Klaus Praesent.
