We concluded that there was a High potential for poor medical care to go undetected because the air Force medical serv ice did not have an effective Quality Assur Ance program the air Force audit Agency reported after a detailed two year study of five service hospitals. According to an associated press Story the defense department s inspector general has issued several blistering re ports Over the past few months castigating each of the services for granting medical privileges to doctors without proper Back ground checks inadequately supervising emergency rooms and physician assistants and allowing doctors to work a second Job without proper authorization. The latest report by the air Force audit Agency said More than 70 percent of medical events which should have been reviewed were not being evaluated a said. The audit focused on five hospitals Mather fab and Travis fab in califor Nia the regional medical Center in wies Baden and the air Force hospitals at the Lakin health and upper Heyford bases in England a reported an air Force spokesman said the five hospitals were chosen because they rep resented a Range of sizes and were located  to the auditors.
