I be been Riding buses and subways every Day for the past four years. I wish i had a Nickel for every time i have offered my seat to an older person and was turned Down. They say no thanks to getting off at the next they then stand for another 15 minutes or no thanks i be been sitting All the worst response is one i have had from at least 15 people. It is this i m in perfect health Young Man. Do i look too feeble to stand i think it is crazy that i must guess whether a person is going to accept my seat before i offer it. May i give some Ann Landers advice to everyone who May be Reading this whenever someone offers you a seat on a bus or subway take it sign me tired of guessing in bean town dear bean thanks for a letter that proves the younger generation can sometimes teach the oldsters a thing or two. Dear Ann Lander the problem is my Mother in Law. Ever since our son was born 11 months ago i have not been Able to get rid of her. She begs me to let her baby sit. When i do i am always sorry. Johnny gets off schedule because she does t let him Nap. She feeds him soda pop sugar cookies and ice Cream. His Stom Ach is upset for two Days after she leaves. He cries constantly after she comes Over and does t mind me Worth a darn. Twice i have hired Sitters instead of letting my Mother in Law come Over. She has paid them off and taken charge. This woman treats my husband As if he were a child. He s 26. She gives him or Ders and he s scared to death to say boo to her. Ann i m afraid ruining our marriage As Well As our child. I be seriously considered divorcing my husband just to get his Mother out of my life even though i love the Guy and it would kill him to part with Johnny. Please Tell me what to do. I am clearly out in left Field in West Virginia dear left Field if you want to have a decent life you Are going to need family counselling. It is obvious that your Mother in Law has a Ham Merlock on your husband and is not about to turn him Loose unless an outside part intervenes. What s More your husband needs to be made aware of what is happening to his life and yours. Telling him won t work. He must hear it from an impartial party. Make an appointment with a marriage Counselor and Tell your husband it s the Only Way the marriage can be saved. I Hope he listens because if he does t he May lose you and his son. Dear Ann Landers the Man i work for is a human Dynamo. He never seems to relax. I have never seen a person so keyed up in All my life. Can this sort of behaviour cause High blood pressure a. In Logan Utah dear glow key people can and do have High blood pressure. When the blood has to fight hard to get through the Eins that s when the blood pressure rises. Smoking excess weight and no exercise Are the real culprits As Well As the kind of tissue one inherits. We can t do much about the genetic fac tors but we certainly can Stop smoking exercise and take off those excess pounds. Readers wishing to write to news America Syndi Cate columnist Landers May address their letters in care of the stars and stripes Apo 09211, . Forces a message to american leaders from the seventh Grade i am a seventh grader at Brussels Ameri can school. My classmates and i have a message for the leaders of the United states. At school and on the bus we have Long discussed the political matter of All the Money taken from educational uses and Given to the military to be used for the making of new weapons. The United states and the soviet Union making More and More weapons and spying suspiciously on each other will certainly not help matters. The Gramm Rudman Law is causing drastic changes to be made at Brussels american school and All other schools Over seas that operate for the children of Mili tary people and civilians who work for the government. For two years everybody has talked about excellence in education and now there is to be a $60 million Cut in our funds. There will be no new textbooks which we really need our sports program will be Cut Back we won t be Able to have any Field trips fewer teachers will be hired so classes will be bigger children from kindergarten comments on medical benefits i always read with interest whenever some political appointee makes statements about military benefits especially when he tells us not to worry we will take care of your medical care dependents and retirees. Yes or. Mayer i m sure you will with the Low bidder. The big problem seems to be not enough space and overcrowded facilities so now they want to enrol government employees in our deers program. I know they will have to pay for the Caire they receive but it is the Quantity that disturbs me because we will keep losing Quality. We military members retirees and dependents either fulfilled Pur part of our contract or Are doing so now. We went to War or Are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. The time that government employees were authorized to use our military facilities there were none or practically none that met the minimum standards and at that time it made sense. However times have changed. Overcrowding in Pur facilities pushes out the most Vulner Able recipients retirees and dependents. The military hospitals were established for the military retirees and dependents added to ensnare them in the recruitment program. Stay in. You get free yes free medical care for you and your family even after you retire i also find it immoral that our political leaders get to use our facilities including the president. Please Don t give me the Bull that he is our commander in chief. They should build a Hospital bed in the White House and have the funds come out of the White House budget. There Are plenty of Good facilities in Europe and the government employees should be phased out into the Economy. State department personnel should not be allowed to use any of. Our facilities they Are supposed to mix with the local people. In countries where they Don t exist or Are below european standards ship them to the closest one. Leave our military hospitals for those it was set up to take care of and there won t be an problems. In closing i would like to mention Are Only the military members Active and retired supposed to be dedicated patriots even at the loss of rightfully earned privileges thin about it. . Fiore. Sergeant major retired Naples Italy no told to get her facts straight in response to a letter to the editor no suggests personnel Wear uniforms properly i feel compelled to mention that the author of that letter should have gotten her facts straight before opening an attack on violators of apr 35-10. I agree that the 35-10 of Many individuals in the armed forces is lacking. However As an airman i have been taught and i strongly believe that cos have the Dis Tinct responsibility of setting exemplary standards of both bearing and behaviour for their subordinates and Peers. The setting of standards includes being knowledgeable in certain areas like afr 35-10. How can you set the Standard if you Don t know what is is i suggest that the no who encountered an air Force major who was wearing her jacket prep pie style with the Collar flipped up and her rank insignia on the underside of the col Lar read the Section in afr 35-10 regard ing the Wear of the women s lightweight Blue jacket. The women s jacket May be worn with the Collar either up or Down As Long As the proper Wear of insignia is adhered to. Perhaps if a few More people were better versed in the More common regulations like afr 35-10, and checked the facts before making assumptions the passing of false information about various regulations would cease and military members like the ones that no saw would not be walking around out of 35-10. Just As there is no excuse for an no who is just too Plain Lazy to spend a few minutes to be a proud representative of the United states military there is no excuse for any military member who does t take the time to Check the As members of the military we have a reputation to uphold As Well As a duty to represent our country with Honor and Pride. Your uniform is the most visible indication of How you feel about yourself and the country that you represent. Wear it with Pride . Dawn n. Who knows what other bad things will happen to our educational program if the defense department wants to Cut Back on spending Why does t it make or buy two or three fewer planes that will save the $60 million and allow us kids at Dodd schools to have what is our right a Good education. Making new weapons to defend ourselves from invaders is All very Good but for the moment the Only thing we have to fear is ourselves. To us it seems that you Are Tak ing our generation s Chance for a Good Edu cation to make new misses and develop Star wars and stockpile even More nuclear weapons when there already Are enough to destroy the world 100 times. We Are the new generation. You arc Rob Bing us of our Chance for knowledge and giving us weapons which if we Are not care Ful at every instant will kill us All. In our opinion we should have our education left alone so we can learn and Prosper to be come a Wise and knowing new generation. So far the .s.r. And the United states have maintained peaceful relations through Mutual fear but if we want our world to be a Friendly one we Are going to have to work for it. In this Way our new generation can be proud of what the generations before us have done.
