J would like to express my a tilde to this lady and add a few Points to her recital of the needs of the Soldier and governmental waste. Having served four Yean in the military and two years As a civilian contractor to the . Army i too feel the need to make our voices heard. Presently i am a vocational instructor employed by a Junior College. My area of instruction is the Auto motive Field. Each week i Leach at a different unit Here in Germany. This leads to a vast exposure to the actual waste and carelessness that i exercised each Day not Only by the Soldier but also by his Chain of command and civilian support introduction to Eai h class is quite similar what is wrong with your unit s maintenance system and what would you do to improve it the typical response is it does t work but there is nothing that i can do about Bull on a daily basis i see something As simple a an air filler changed before it is required Only to make the colonel Happy when he opens the filter Boosing. Go knows thai if he unt Happy the Soldier will suffer. Has anyone bothered to read the training manual to the colonel and show him that the air filter should Only be serviced when the red band shows in the restriction indicator never these fillers Cost from $35 to $60depending on the vehicle application. Yet they must be new when the colonel comes around for inspect is a Small example of absolute stupidity and n waste of valuable dollars that could be put to use i educating out children and making the Soldier s Way of life better. Many Many dollars Are wasted daily and usually to the knowledge of the Soldier but his excuse is that no one will Lisin to him. Maybe not. But collectively we will be heard. My father used to Tell my Brothers Ond me whence confronted a senseless situation such As this in Stead of sitting in a dark room complaining about it. Light a Light your candles gentlemen arid ladies. I Challenge you to write a letter to every .congressman and wll him of the sold ice s fight his fight to enforce what is right morally not Politi is just a Small example of Why soldiers fire receiving minimal pay increases while our representatives Are growing Rich in their capsule of selfishness. Today s representation with taxation makes me absolutely sick. The whole world is laugh ing at us the americans because we Are dying due to our own stupidity. I have dedicated my life to helping the need Only to Confer with my past and present students to verify this. Why else would i be Here teaching for half the Money thai i could make in. The ., working for a civilian firm As a technician because of the Soldier. Once again i Challenge you to stand up and talk10 our congressmen and commanders. Call the due hotline. Write your congressman. Tell them what i happening and thai it is wrong. Then consider his or her reply when you Check that Box on the election about the Little you waste every Day and multiply it by the 700,000 soldiers in the army. The amount will be staggering. This waste could be put to much better use. Jeffrey Stonebraker Baum older Germany Shell miss 3rd in 67th air defense arty As our tour of Germany comes loan end i can truly say i will miss my army family Here More particularly 3rd in 67lh air defense arty. The griping and grumbling when things have gone wrong is just Tike thai of siblings in a biological family sure things do go wrong sometimes. But thai Only draws us closer together As we work to Correct the problems. Like a family we Are constantly changing struggling growing. But still a family nevertheless. When i was 19, 1 had an unfortunate experience with a gang of eight Drunken soldiers. I hated the sight of a Man in a Green uniform. Fate led me to marry Soldier out of uniform when we met and brought me to this unit where i have worked with soldiers daily for three years in the s4. Working with soldiers daily has taught me that like family the army is made up of individuals with differ ent strengths and weaknesses. And so Many of you individuals enlisted and officer alike have shown that you really do care about your brother soldiers with their family soldiers we Are All soldiers Here. This individual caring has turned my Altitude around. This is not to say thai i Haven t had my share of disappointments arid difficulties with the interpretations of bureaucratic regulations. But there arc so Many of you that i genuinely care about that it will be painful to leave you. Though my husband is not Ada by military occur National specially a quirk of the assignment bran Hhas sent us to the Home of Ada in fort Bliss. Texas. I look Forward to a family reunion with Many of you on the other to Alt the 3d inf div elements i have dealt with i say thank you and Farewell. But to 3/67 Ada i say auf Charlotte gel kit Zingen German refuelling photo draws Reader criticism i read your recent article "1st army div units prove they Don t fuel around with great interest. Being a former aviator and having dealt with hot refuelling and Mobile fuel Points 1 cannot believe that a you would print a picture of a senior noncommissioned officer Wilh a Cigar in his Mouth checking fuel Points and a that his unit commander would permit such a flagrant disregard for safely practices. The Bottom line is not whether or not the Cigar was burning in is the image in projects to the Young Soldier we Are trying to train. Speed might certainly be a goal but not at the Cost and sacrifice of safety. Maj. James e. Shipley Zorndorf Germany. One of the photos shows a sergeant inspecting a fuel nozzle with a Cigar in his Mouth. Whether the Cigar was lit or not is immaterial. The Mere presence of a Cigar while conducting this operation indicates a noncommissioned officer Wilh a Lack of discipline. No smoking within 50 feet is the Rule and with the Cigar he creates the impression that in a position of authority he can ignore the rules. Could he really be sure it Rasoul i Ihrk not. Sgt a.
