A the University of California announced wednesday the firing of Joe Kapp in Bis fifth year As head football coach effective at the end of the season. Athletic director Dave Maggard who hired Kapp said at a news con Ference that he asked Kapp to resign last saturday but the coach declined. A decision to Force Kapp out was made tuesday night Maggard said. I think everybody wants to have a winning coach Maggard said. I think everybody is looking for a new coach who can  Kapp whose team is 1-7 this sea son did not attend the news Confer ence. He was at practice which was closed to outsiders. He will be paid for the two Yea remaining on his current coaching contract Maggard said. Kapp 48, was the quarterback Oncal s last Rose bowl team 1958, and returned to the school in 1982 wit Hopes of guiding the Golden bears to the Rose bowl  played in the Canadian foot Ball league and National football league.
