Practically All of us realize it is a dangerous thing to do but Many people Are not deterred by this realization. I recently overheard a conversation in inc snack Barat the place where i work that brought this Point Home. A Man at a table next to me told the person sitting across from him boy i was really wrecked the other night. I m not even sure How i got Home. My father would have turned 64 this year if he Hadnot been killed nearly 12 years ago by drinking and driving. He was not the Driver at the time of the Acci Dent but he was in part responsible for his death by buying the Driver drinks. He and a Friend had gone to a bar not far fro where my parents lived to have a few. And they both had a few Loo Many. They left the bar in the Friend scar and proceeded Home. At the first intersection they came to my father s Friend misjudged the distance of oncoming traffic and made a left turn into the path Ofa pickup truck barrelling Down on them at 45 Miles an hour. The truck slammed into the passenger Side almost before it Driver had Lime to apply the brakes. The violent Force of the collision caved in the passenger Side of the car and shoved the car several Yards Side ways. My father s Friend escaped Wilh Only a broken wrist but my father suffered massive Chest injuries and was rushed to the intensive care unit of the nearest Hospi Tal where he died before the doctor could do much for him. As Fate would have it my Mother passed the scene of the Accident on the Way Home from work before the police had cleared the vehicles off the Road. She swathe demolished car and thought. In the years since my father s deals i have often Felt sad that he did t live Long enough to see my brother and me get married and have children. I m saddened even further by the Lack of photos of him. I Only have one Pic Ture of Ira taken when he was a very Young paratrooper during world War ii so my son does t really know what his Grandfather looked like. I am due to leave Germany in March 1987.
