While 5.6 million unmarried women Are coping with work and the demands of children Only about 900,000 unmarried men Are in the same category. The report noted that finding child care arrange ments for the youngest children presents a problem for Many families since formal Day care facilities often exclude infants and very Young children. For children under a year old 78 percent were cared for Al their Home or someone else t Home while the Mother worked the study found. But by the age of 3 or 4, the share cared for at someone s Home dropped to 58 percent with Many of the others heading to Day care facilities. It is apparent that for the first few years of a child s life the children of working women May experience considerable changes in the Type of child care As the children grow from infancy to school age the study observed.
