European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - July 14, 1987, Darmstadt, Hesse Tuesday july 14. 19b7 the stars and stripes Arm Landers Page 11 Fetters in ago in child dear Ann Landers after Reading another idler about husbands and their affairs i realized How Many of us live with wounded hearts. There Are organizations for people who need to talk about the Detoh of a spouse or a child or for those who live with alcoholics but i know of no group that i will help a woman up her life r Back together Afler she learns that of her husband has betrayed her. I almost died of Shock and pain two Yea when my husband received a letter addressed i ish looking handwriting. I la never forget the look on his face As i handed it to him. After Reading is letter he said it s from inc kid of a Man i used to wort he then put it in his jacket. Pocket. Yes. I did the unforgivable thing. When he left the room i read the letter. Dear dad it started out. After two Days of talk and tears i Learned thai he had had an affair Wilh a girl half his age. It lasted nine years and she hid two children by him. She threatened to Tell me everything if he stopped seeing her so he continued. Four years ago he decided to Cut her out of his life and Lake the consequences. He has t heard from her since and believes she has moved out of town. I saw nothing to be gained by kicking him out but these two years since i Learned he deceived me have been hell. Any suggestions on How i can gel Over this pain without end dear pain you need to unburden yourself to a professional. Family or friends won t do a trusted Clergyman or a therapist would be Ideal. I wee Job to gel gone at once. The tone of your letter suggest that Yon Are soil agonizing. Two years is much tooling to carry this Load. Good Luck and god bless Yon dear Ann Landers you really came Down hard on Drivers who ignore ambulance sirens. Please lighten up. In our town we have a few fire chiefs who use their sirens to gel to meetings and police officers who use their sirens to go to lunch. There Are so Many ambulance sirens and flashing lights in this City one would think that half the population has had a heart attack. We also have the new two for one computer traffic control Tyi tem. This Means two minutes tin red and one minute on Green. This makes motorists mad and encourages those Wilh sirens to use them. My letter proves there Are two sides to every Story. No location Dew no location thanks for the fill in. My advice is the same. All motorists roust give sirens the right of Way. For every fire chief who is going to lunch Ibert in so who Are going to a lire. Wake up and smell he smoke a Calann Landen slope you won t take this lightly because it s one Budt of a nuisance to a lot of people in our age group. Please use your influence to gel the bakeries fast food stores and restaurants to Stop putting sesame teed on All their products. The darned Aningi gel under our dentures and make life miserable. Touching in the East dear ouch consider it done. Hear yet All Yon folks who Sprinkle to Twe 4 Wilh re Calm abandon hate a heart Aad lean pm off a few things Tot the denture wearer of Patrica they will bless you and Yon sales or an to Lacrosse. Civilians concerned by overseas attitudes we Are civilian with four years of experience with the defense department two in the United slates and two in Germany. Our experience in the state was rewarding. We found our colleagues military and civilian proc upon Al and dedicated and we decided to come overseas. Perhaps we have Only encountered a Small problem area and our experience does not hold True for other command but conversations with colleagues military and civilian at other commands have alarmed us. We Are concerned with life in the Small Garrison towns where the nightly revels of soldiers leave passed Oul Young men across sidewalks where Young. Ger Man girls Bear any number of illegitimate children where the most common expressions of soldiers seem 1o be obscenities and where if asked about his or her purpose in Germany inc reply goes something like hey Don t ask me i m just doing my Job. Any trouble starts i walk after i drop a grenade Down my . S pants we Are concerned about base life where among the dedicated leaders of the officer corps we encounter those officers and their wives who seem to believe thai overseas duly especially at out of the Way bases entitles them to some aristocratic status the base being their private country club where rank is uti Lizer to expect special privileges whether in child care or school or the Many other Dod affiliations where civilians arc seen As second class citizens and Basic american courtesies of say nodding hello or speaking cordially arc avoided where Civit ins who do take Pat in base activities arc sometimes treated so condescendingly so Iclef right Cousley they must run for i hair lives. At a recent conference i was told thai everyone was suspect hat i could Only expect the same treatment As a Soldier. What is going on Here what has happened to inc morale of our enlisted men thai Der Spiegel could report such a breakdown Al Tach Sites last year what about the comments we have heard thai the old troop officer who lived and ate with his men who truly knew his men is gone and thai what we have now Are Mas managers what inc soldiers Call desk weenies do officers wives have some kind of authority Ovici civilians too often the Busy Volunteer organizations Are weighed Down by those who crave the Brownie Points but do Little work. Finally what can a civilian do Are there procedure for filing complaint to the officers and enlisted men and those civilian who Are hard working dedicated professionals we Salute you it s not enough that you must work under such isolation and extremes at times but you also must carry the dead weight of the banal new and location withheld More opinions on issuing flight jackets i m writing in response to the barrage of letters about issuing leather night jackets to air Force pilots. Although most letters originally addressed the jacket Issue or the one Pilot s statements concerning their significance they soon degraded into lambast ing pilots in general As if we pilots initiated this policy As the Pilot from Ramstein a so aptly stated the issuing of jackets is simply a Stop Gap measure thai attempts to treat Hie symptoms of the Pilot retention problem instead of the causes the disturbing theme through the majority of those letters was the apparent animosity the authors had toward pilots. It was As if the jacket bit was just an excuse to vent some deep seated resentment to Ward fliers from the rest of the air Force Community. How unfortunate. I personally could care less about leather jackets and i m sure a number of pilots share my sentiments. The problems in Pilot retention Are More Complex than that. However i am one of Many fighter pilots now pounding the turf in bus because i chose to stay in for one of those glamorous jobs we re routinely Force fed by the air Forte assignment sys tem. Enlarged ego and All i resent being blamed Lor everybody s personal gripes with the military. You Are certainly entitled to your opinion. I for one am comfortable with who Lam either flying fighters sans leather jacket or serving As an air Liaison officer with the army whatever in takes to accomplish the Mission. Name Aad location withheld the Pilot who wrote in and said the air Force ii using it As a band Aid fix was right on the Money. The main reason so Many pilots Are getting out is because of Square filling jobs. Taxpayers would scream if they realized How Many millions of dollars it costs to train a Pilot then after a few years when he has become experienced in his fighter Lei him sit on the ground for three or four years. That is the real problem. The quicker the senior air Force echelons realize that inc belter the whole situation will be. My husband is a fighter Pilot and he could care less about a leather flight jacket. Make his bus into a flight suit to boost his morale just put him Back in the cockpit where he belongs and where he wants lobe a fighter Pilot i wife location withheld Reader gets address of Colorado Bank this letter is regarding the recent Story entitled "4-year-old Colorado girl needs j 100,000 for it would be greatly appreciated if you would print the address of the Bank in Colorado.
