Suspends top Calif lawyer Washington not the Interior depart ment temporarily suspended its chief regional lawyer in California Friday pending a Justice department review of a possible conflict of interest. At Issue is whether the lawyer sought employment with a Law firm whose client benefited from a water rights settlement that he had negotiated Interior department officials said. The officials said the lawyer David e. Lyndgren had been reassigned o other duties in the California office by the Interior department s solicitor. Ralph Tarr one official said the action was taken with the concurrence of Interior Secretary Donald p. Hodel to preserve the integrity of the Interior department As Well As Lindgren s constitutional rights. Lindgron denied any improprieties. The action resulted from a report filed last week by the Interior department s Deputy inspector general Joyce Fleischman.
