Nut i be never realized a similar disappointment on a simple hiking or Mountain climbing our. Being a neophyte in High Mountain adventures. Never expected inc id Down t had this summer in Zermatt Switzerland. Experienced Mountain Crim hrs will probably find my Story a Little bit to hum because in May be per haps like Many of their own routine stories. This one s mine. But to me it s not routine. I headed for Zermatt in mid August with High Hopes of climbing at Casl two peaks above 4,000 meters. I had worked most of the summer through a serious physical training program to be in Good condition for climbing. There were a Tew minor interruptions o this pre Paratory Effort Bui Tor the most part i Felt i was ready when i arrived at the Pennine Mountain Range on inc Border Between Italy and Switzerland. T had planned to spend the first five to six Days getting my feet and system adjusted to ascents at a til Udes of 2,000 to 3,000 meters above sea level. The first Day went according to plan. I hiked up to the re Horn Hunt la a Small Mountain House just below inc first major Ridge of the Zinal Wolhorn the Mountain House was at 3,200 meters so it was a Good workout for an ascent of 1,600 milers. I had started from inc Valley at Zermatt which is 1,600 meters High. I had a Light rain Shower on the Way Down. Otherwise inc weather was Good All the Way. Mark Swearengen it Felt great bul i had Lorca and recuperate the next Lay. 1 prepared the rest of the week with hikes up to the Obj pro Thorn and the act Delhom. Both at 3.400 me ters and 3 Point just above the Schwarzer at 2,600 meters. By the end of the week i was tired but my Hopes were up because 1 fell ready to go for inc 4,. 1 had decided on the Zinal Wolhorn Peak of 4,221 my lers and either the Monte Rosa or the mat lorhorn. But 1 began to be troubled by forecasts of changing weather i figured i d make arrangements on sunday for a guide so i could Start inc trip on monday. Sunday came and so did bad weather. I woke up to Low Cloud cover rain and no visible mountaintops. My dreams slatted to fade i had planned and worked for nearly a year on Hopes to do some real climbing this summer. Sud Denly the Hopes appeared Distant if not impossible. Two Days later when the Clouds lifted i could see thai the mountains were covered with almost a my scr of new Snow Down to about 2,800 meters. Climbing for folks like me was out of he question for the next Tew weeks and probably the rest of the year. The disappointment i fell on thursday f thin second week was probably greater than Ihal of a Hunter in Europe who goes for a class Hirsch red Deer Stag and comes Homo without even seeing my. Thing. I had hoped to climb mountains but Hail l climbed a single on. There was one Consolation. 1 went on a hike no hit end of the week up 10 an area called the  where i saw at least 24 Stcin bocce a rare animal totally protected in this part of Europe. This was exciting and at Hes am time comforting because it reminded me that while i did t make the climbs i had hoped for t did have the Opportunity to experience a Beautiful Mountain Region of Europe and i enjoyed the adventure.
