Today i was shocked is putting it mildly. I asked my daughter what she thought of the poem and she re plied i didst like it very much but the teacher thought it was funny. Here is the poem As it appeared in my daughter s work Book dreadful someone ate the baby it s rather sad to say. Someone ate the baby so she won t be out to play. Well never hear her whiney cry or have to feel if she is dry. Well never hear her asking Why someone ate the baby. Someone ate the baby it s absolutely Clear. Someone ate the baby cause the baby in t Here. Well give away her toys and clothes Well never have to wipe her nose dad says that s the Way it someone ate the baby. Someone ate the baby what a frightful thing to eat. Someone ate the baby though she was t very Sweet. It was a heartless thing to do the policemen Haven t a clue i simply can t imagine who would go and burp eat the baby. Author unknown i contacted the principal of the school. She said the poem is from a Book in their medi Center. I told her that i was going to try to get that poem removed. She said go i am writing to let other parents know that the should become actively involved in what their children Are learning in school. Atlanta Mother dear Mother that poem is from a Book called where the Side walk ends copyright 1974, evil Eye music inc. The author is Shel Silverstein. Some people think it is very funny. I am not a fan of sick humor. In my opinion this poem does not belong in a Bookfor 8-year-Olds. Dear Ann Landers please share this easy Rescue technique it could save lives. Inflated spare or old automobile tires mounted on rims May be thrown wheeled Slid pushed or rolled to any drowning person who May be struggling to stay alive. Any person or party on a boat fishing or whatever should carry some spare tires on Board for any Emer gency. Remember Florida air flight 309, which crashed into the Potomac River while taking off from Washington National Airport 1 wonder How Many spectators had spare tires in the trunks of their cars. If Ever person who watched that disaster had tossed a tire into the water who knows How Many More lives Wouldhave been saved Joseph Julia Odear Joe thanks for tossing the Lifesaver this Way. According to the National safety Council an inflated tire would be Fine but one on a rim could hit the Strug gling person and kill him. Los Angeles times Syndicate columnist Landers welcomes your letters. You can write to her in care of the stars and stripes Apo 09211. . Forces natural is. Adopted discussed i believe Ann Landers has done a great disservice tothe Many adoptable children waiting for Homes in the United states and overseas. I refer to the recent column dealing with the nature is. Nurture argument and Why some Well reared children go the forgotten Factor is personal Choice and responsibility. Despite whatever Good upbringing children May receive some will make wrong and even rebellious decisions. Or. James Dobson has commented Well on this especially As it relates to parents who feel a tremendous Burden of unnecessary guilt if a child of their rejects the teaching of Home school and Church. It boils Down to the fact that we All make wilful choices in Light of or in spite of How Ever we were raised. Please readers Don t leave with the impression that adopted children Are some kind of bad i have a personal Story. I was raised As an adopted child with two natural siblings. They were the ones who went against Strong religious values and have Hada variety of problems including premarital pregnancy divorce trouble with police inability to hold a Job or keep a Home. I keep in touch maintain a Loving relationship with both and Long for the Day they will make different choices. My husband and i Are the parents of three Lovely children two Home grown one adopted. Wherever we go they Are an complimented on personality appearance and behaviour. The adopted child was Mussier As an infant but How Many All Home grown families can attest to the fact that the lord blesses our Homes with a variety of personalities. Our adopted child came from an extremely difficult prenatal background but shows no ill effects. Certainly we All recognize the awful effects of prenatal drug an alcohol exposure but again it s not All genes or environment. Look at the Happy families with children from India where average birth weights Are in the 3-4 Pound Range and diet health and sanitation Are Allbut universally poor. The bad genes idea smacks of Hitler Ian eugenics to encourage pure Breeding and sterilize or murder undesirables or please give adopters adoptive families and adoptable kids a better break name and location withheld editor s note Ann Landers replies Many others wrote in response to the original column. My intention was certainly not to imply that genetics was the total answer simply that it plays a very important role. I Hope you will thank this Reader for taking the time and trouble to write. I will be doing a follow up column on this Issue where the adopted child turns out great and the biological child is a problem. Stay tuned i Send warm Good wishes to you and your readers. In one of his movies Wesee him before the Trevi Fountain where after chasing off two boys who were fishing for coins he introduce himself to a Gullible tourist As signer Trevi whose family has owned the Fountain for Many then proceeds to sell the Fountain for a Good sum after demonstrating that tourists were paying to take pictures and someone wanted to pay to make a movie there.
