Authorities said they plan to investigate whether the outage the first in the 911 system s five years of operation resulted in injury death or fire damage that could have been avoided had the system been working properly. The number of Calls that went unanswered was unknown but the system normally handles 5,000.to 7,000 Calls Aday and a four hour breakdown could easily have left hundreds of Calls unanswered said Lewallen. Lewallen said that about 75 percent of the 4 Millio Calls dialled each year on 911 Are emergencies with the rest usually non Emer gency Calls or pranks.
