Last week i accepted his engagement ring. The nest Day Greg s sex wife and 1 had lunch. Jean told me some things that were very upsetting. It seems Greg beat her up several times during heir marriage and that was the reason she divorced him. She had never told any one about this Side of him. However As she spoke 1 remembered that she had shown up at a party with a broken nose one evening and said that she had been in a minor car Accident. ,.Al the end of our 1 Uncle i thanked Jean for being so candid went Back to work and Shook like a Leaf for an hour. That night when Greg and met for supper i told him what Jean had said. At first he seemed outraged and called her but later he confessed to hitting her a couple of times and added you Don t have to worry i am not a wife beater he also swore thai he would never hit me no Mailer what. App 09z11, Page 1t letters controversy churns Over year of Neq i am writing in reference to a recent letter in the stars and stripes dealing with the year of the no. The writer expressed a widespread attitude among Mil itary personnel . An no is on duty 24 hours a Day seven Days a week 365 Days a maybe Alt these people forget that cos have families cos Are human beings with human needs feet Ings and desires not just robots or computers that you can program. They have a right to a private life. No Job i the whole world not even in the military has the right to deprive anyone of the right to spend Lime with the family and just let go of the professional stress v moreover it is very unfair to make the cos suffer for the deficiencies of the system. The system does not have the right to Burden Down the no just because it itself cannot get organized or because it is under the false impression that the whole world evolves around the military. Life consists of a lot More than military it is not right that the no always has to pick up the Slack that results from the Chain of command s i abilities or the inefficiency of other soldiers. Neither is it Correct to make cos responsible for unfinished projects resulting from unforeseeable emergencies . Accidents sickness. It it also wrong to consider an no a cheap baby if the military recruits soldiers it should make sure that mature adults Are hired who can take care of themselves. Maybe hiring and education standards should be re evaluated. I wonder How anyone can Trust a Soldier who is incapable of handling his own life bouncing checks drinking problems Etc those problems usually re quire the attention of an no. In wartime you need More than just a programmed machine you need a mature responsible adult who can effectively judge any Given situation and Lake charge. Therefore if you really Waini to make this the year of the no then give the cos a break and Stop pushing them around treat cos the Way they de serve to be treated . Like human beings and not like puppets on a string that Are always at your disposal name mid location withheld a recent letter to the editor appeared entitled a Salute to cos the army s Backbone i was sur prised to Sec thai it was written by an no for cos. What the writer stated about the dedication and Abili ties of cos As individuals and As a corps were absolutely Correct to include i comment about the sergeants who need to get with the program or return to civilian life and a Job. However i believe that he As an no himself should not have been saluting his own is inc officers and soldiers who work with and for cos who should take on the responsibility in this year of the no. Moreover our actions should speak louder than our words. Special thanks to the cos who i have had the Opportunity to work with and Learned from As a Junior officer. Lit i. Ruth l. Hamilton. Asch Allenburg West germ Iury v i feel it s the e-4 Anil below who arc inc it s the e-4 and below who do Musl of the work also it s the e-4 and below who get the grief when something in t done correctly or not done on Lime regardless of whose Faull it is. As for when the e-4 and below get awarded with for something that Soldier has had to bust but to get that award when it comes Down to who gets the glory when something is done correctly or on time and cd. Cry body is Happy it s the cos who get the .Al on. The Back even though it was the e-4 and below who did the entire Job and had to Lake the grief from their. Cos while doing it. When a Soldier has a personal problem most cos Are reluctant to gel involved unless they absolutely have to. If it does t Deal directly with them cos arc More Likely to give a temporary solution or Tell the Soldier they stir jul Hack to then a Good percentage of the time the no will fail to follow up with the Soldier who has inc problem. Few e-5s and e-6s have experienced any combat situations and there Are quite a few specialists privates first class and privates who would rather shoot them selves in the foot than go to combat with some of inc cos in their units. Yes there Are some Good cos but they Are few and far Between. It s respect the rank of an no if you can t respect the person who wears it. Name and location withheld Mckinz Kustel personnel office praised sometimes among All the Road apples you will find a Rose 1 would like to take this Lime to say that the civilian personnel office at Maini Kast Ewest Ger Many sure qualifies As a Rose. I am writing this to not Only say thank you but to let All your readers know that the employees of the Mainz Wiesbaden civilian personnel office can be counted on to support you 100 percent when you need their help. A situation came up in my organization that required us to have five new employees on Board within two Days. My division chief picked up the phone and called or Rosenberry civilian personnel officer at mama Kalcl and informed him of our unusual Situa Tion. He understood the situation and immediately told us to bring our recruitment actions and we could Waik them through the different branches they must go through before the referral list can be run i did this and found everyone ready and More than willing to helpme., " everything went smoothly but time was running Short because co was to close at 11 . For a train ing seminar. Believe la or not two ladies from recruit men and placement s a team did not close up and go to the training Hung right in in Etc and helped me until All candidates were chosen then they got on the phones and started calling the chosen Candi Dales to offer them the positions until All the positions were filled. By doing this they missed a Large part of inc training seminar this is what 1 Call outstanding support without their expert excellent and timely help we would not have been Able to support the soldiers of the Large military exercise Winter in inc Wiesbaden air Linse dining facility. A big thank you to Marel Tenn son and Irene Floyd of recruitment and placement a team do disc Richards of classifications Irene Mcfarland of . Technical services and or.
