Each publisher and editor lists what kind of subjects they will or will not accept. These publish ers have the right to turn Down any material they feel is unsuitable for their particular Reading audience. This is a fact that All journalism teachers should make known to their students. Name withheld bad Kreuz Nach West Germany i understand the students of Gen . Arnold High school and their grievances. The newspaper is there to portray the school right then Why hide the truth the Basic educational Mission is not to form a Utopia but to prepare students or real life situations. This involves the truth hiding the truth will Only give an individual a false sense of Security. 1 can Sec one Point truth can definitely Hurt. But on the other hand silence can too silence is not happiness. And happiness is the Basic Issue Here am i right if silence is used As a form of propaganda the Basic issues and problems will never be addressed or solved. For instance the increase in teen age pregnancies and the drug problem worldwide. Silence will not make these problems disappear just As in our own democratic society without our first amendment rights my letter would never make it to the editor people would never learn about Oil spills we could never form groups such As Green peace and most of All there would be no one to even act upon problems in our society. I feel that knowledge should be our highest priority and truth should be of supreme value. Therefore i support the students of . Arnold High school in exercising their first amendment rights. I address Roger Youngman with All due respect the definition of philosophy is finding bad reasons for what one believes for other bad reasons. So please redefine your school s philosophy. It is unfortunate that the journalism teacher perceives her Job As less related to equipping student with marketable skills than to using them to vent an anti authority Bias perhaps no one Ever explained it that Way before. I Hope the principal will hold the line and that both the school system and the Community will sup port his efforts to keep All in line with the Mission of the school to educate Young people without Radi Cal izing them and then too. Of course to support the broadly consensual values acceptable to the Community. The Tail should not wag the dog. Oakley a Mceachron bad Hersfeldt. I Don t like that Story so you re not going to do it when she gets out into the real world of journalism. This is especially if she ends up working for some army newspapers. We who do work for army news papers know Only too Well the phrases Only run the Good stories and we Don t have problems in our Community and you should look Lor other types of stories and the out and out Bald faced censorship that journalists working for the military often face on a regular basis. Don t Tell me that All journalists face similar circumstances because everybody ultimately has a bos they must make Happy. That May Wash for managers or Bosses but it sure does t for working journalists on Many military newspapers.
