During the 1970s, the great Brazil Ian Driver won two world championships his first in1972 for the late Colin Chapman s Lotus team and his second title in 1974 for Mclaren. He started in formula one grand prix racing with Lotus in 1970 at the age of 23 after a highly successful career in formula 3 racing. He was the youngest Driver in the grand prix circus at that time and he was regarded As the Young Man to watch. And he lived up to his expectations. He scored his first world championship Points in the German grand prix at Hocke Nchim in 1970 when he finished fourth. That race was won by his famous teammate Jochyn Rindt of Austria who died Only a month later in an Accident during qualifying for the italian grand prix at Monza. The austrian was leading for the world title at the time and he became the first and Only posthumous world Champion because no Driver could top Kindt s Points total in the three grand prix races remaining on the i970schcdule. One of those three races was the . Grand prix at Watkins Glen and it was the scene of Fittipaldi s first grand prix Victor for Lotus. There would be Many More. But he returned to go indy car racing in 1984, and he has remained a lop Driver on the american scene Ever since.
