European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - August 12, 1989, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes Page 11 Ann Landers letters dear Ann Landers my Best Friend s husband left her in 1985 when she was seven months pregnant. He ran off with a woman who is is years older than he is. The tramp i divorced and has two grown sons. Bill is still living with the woman. My Friend Claire has this Darling Little girl who is now 3 years old. She refuses to get a divorce because marriage is Bill comes Over every night to see the child and stays for dinner. His girl Friend does t Cook i am angry and frustrated because i can t make Claire Sec How full her life could be if she would divorce the Jerk. I know men who would love to take Herout but they Are afraid to get involved with a woman who is still married. I be begged her to get counselling but she says she does t need it. Meanwhile life is passing her by. What can i do a True Friend Columbus dear Friend obviously nothing. Lay off and Hope Claire conies to her senses. Sometimes too much pressure works in reverse. Dear Ann Landers you could have done better in your response to hurting in you la recall that she was Hurt by her Fiance s reaction to her constant chatter about the details of their upcoming wedding a wedding that won t take place until april 1990. I am so excited about the big Day that i think about it constantly she wrote. Perhaps this woman should spend less Energy planning the wedding and More on her relationship with Dick and their life together. You should have told her there is a big difference be tween a wedding and a marriage. A wedding lasts Only a few hours. Hopefully the marriage will last forever. I have seen too Many people Knock themselves out to have the perfect wedding and then they experience a big letdown after family and friends have departed. When the show is Over and real life begins they can t handle it. Lama single woman but i understand Dick s re action. He probably feels like a bit player in a Cecil b. Mcmille production. He would do Well to think twice about spending his life with a woman who is obsessed with caterers Orchid corsages and the color of the bridesmaids gowns. Wedding Bells that go Clunk dear wedding Bells i received a surprising number of letters on this subject but none As insightful As yours. A great Many readers Felt that Dick should be hauled up Short because he did t share his Fiancee s enthusiasm for every detail of the ceremony. I agree with you however that the Bride seems obsessed with putting on a spectacular show. When there is too much emphasis on style substance often suffers. Dear Ann Landers after Reading the item about the funeral mix up had to write and Tell you it happened to us too. We still have not gotten Over the Shock of seeing another woman in our Mother s casket. The stranger was wearing our dear Mother s clothes and was surrounded by Flowers meant for Mother. We had a hard time convincing the funeral director that there had been a mistake As if my Sisters and 1 know Pur own Mother. There in t a night that 1 Don t have nightmares about that experience. It would be interesting to know if this has happened to anyone else. Traumatized in the Midwest dear Midwest i Hope not such bizarre mix up i m sure is a rare occurrence. Have Yon considered a few sessions with a Counselor it might help. Thank you All very much. So. Martin c. Meadows Munich West Germany Ami pays tribute to German car dealer i have been in Germany for Many years which included working for us a it for 10 years. Many times 1 have read and heard stories about How the germans take advantage of us americans or Amis by cheat ing overcharging and doing just about anything else. Well i just went through a situation that i could t believe and i feel that All americans in Germany and especially the military Community should know about it. In March of this year i ordered a new Audi 200 from a or. Armin Rau of the George ritters Bachur Dealership in Kaiserslautern. My car arrived in april and when i went to pick it up i noticed a blemish on the paint on the right rear fender. They offered to repaint the Side and i said i would first drive the car awhile to Sec if anything else was wrong. During the course of the next week i found the Fol lowing discrepancies paint drips under the door Han dle hair inside the Glass of the Windshield slight indentation on the top from the Sunroof installation it was difficult to shift into reverse unless you waited 5 seconds and it had a flaw in the upholstery of the left rear door. I reported this to or. Rau and he contacted the factory. The factory sent a representative who state that they would take the car Back for two weeks and Send it Back to me like new. I Felt that this was the Only Choice i had. Or. Rau stepped in at this time and stated that his customer me had purchased a new car and could expect a new car. He stated that if the car were sent Back to the factory it would not be a new car but repaired car. He insisted that the factory replace my car with a new one. I was flabbergasted and nervous because the factory Man left and said he would let us know the decision and i was thinking it would end up like stories i had heard with nothing done properly. Or. Rau called me each week for a month to let me know that he was insisting that i be Given a new car. In june 1 was advised by or. Rau that i would be Given a new car which arrived on the 6lh of july. 1 love the new car and can t find anything wrong with it. Or. Rau is a German and i am an Ami but i can assure you when i get ready to Purchase another car twill be from him. Bruce Smith Schrull Bach West Germany Buckeye says Ohio far from wimpy a recent an newscast contained a Story about the growing controversy Over a proposed slogan for the new License plates being issued by the state of Texas. While i May agree with the two gubernatorial Candi dates from Texas that the Friendship state is not a particularly Snappy slogan i take definite offence with the one candidate who suggested that such a wimpy slogan belongs to a state like Kansas or Ohio i m proud to be a Buckeye and if the honorable candidate knew his her Texas history perhaps an apology would be forthcoming. A Quick look at the list of fallen defenders of the Alamo includes fighters from the state of Ohio. And let s not forget that the first shots fired at san Jacinto were issued Forth from the twin Sisters of Cincinnati two cannons sent from Loyal supporters of the Texas cause in Ohio. Pride in one s stale is natural but under no Circum stance should anyone Ever characterize another state As All 50 states have shed blood in defense of our freedoms and there s not a wimp to be found in the lot. Edwin t. Williams Bremerhaven West Germany editor s note we have heard from some of the numerous British pen pals who recently wrote to the stars and stripes. They Are Happy to have received tons of mall from serv ice members but the sheer volume of letters is causing some problems. They asked us to Tell you that they May not be Able to respond to All who wrote. If you Haven t heard from the pen pal you wrote to pick a different one and try try again.
