Stuart his wife dying at his Side and seriously injured himself with a stomach wound summoned police with his car Telephone and became an instant National Symbol evoking the horrors of Urban lawlessness. But his Story repeated As fact in Many Media accounts and followed As the basis of a three month police investigation was exposed As a lie. On thursday prosecutors revealed that evidence presented by Stuart s brother had made Stuart the prime suspect in the killing of his wife and their baby son. Stith said he believed that stereo types about Black Urban neighbourhoods made the police take Stuart s account More seriously than they should have and made reporters less Likely to Chal Lenge the Story. The Rev. Grayland Ellis Hagler said police have a Lynch mob mentality toward Black suspects. We can not forget a police depart ment and a commissioner who so read ily used Gestapo tactics against the Black Community he said. There was no corroborate Evi Dence or any forensic evidence or any thing at that time that would have led the police to believe that his Story was other than what he had stated it to be he said.
