But investors resumed to Wall Street tuesday and sent stocks tumbling unnerved by a surge in interest rates in Japan West Germany and the United states. Bond yields in Japan and West Ger Many hit their highest Levels in several years and the yield on the Benchmark 30-year . Treasury Bond Rose to its highest level since late May. Analysts said rates have risen sharply and May climb further in Japan in an attempt to bolster the yen in West Ger Many High rates Are being used to fight inflation. Government officials there fear that an influx of East German con Sumers May spark Price rises. The fears of higher rates pushed Tokyo stocks Down More than 3 per cent wednesday in their third biggest loss on record. Wall Street braced for a sell Oft of its own but the dreaded de Bacle never materialized. Sharp gains thursday were lost to nervousness about what would happen when Tokyo opened that night. Prices suffered their fifth worst decline Ever and Wall Street again fought off a col lapse in Tokyo at least As far As the Blue chips were concerned. The Broad Market sold off however with almost 1,000 issues declining. Some analysts took heart however that Wall Street did not follow Tokyo with near record declines.
