European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - June 15, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes a Page 11 letters a file scrap Metal companies Are ready to pay for recyclable aluminium cans. A recycling profitable for army Community this is concerning a recent letter about recycling aluminium. Aluminium can be recycled in Germany As in the United states. Local scrap Metal firms pay anyone for aluminium. Through the defense re utilization and marketing office we recycled 140 tons of aluminium in fiscal year 1989 and 100 tons so far in fiscal year 1990.sale Price for this aluminium was 50 cents per Pound. This aluminium was not from drink cans but does illustrate the value recycling can have to an army Community. The Community also conducts a kans for the objective is to collect and sell aluminium drink cans to Benefit youth activity programs. More than $20,000 Worth of aluminium in the form of drink cans is sold annually in our Community by cafes and the commissary. We Are involving All Community personnel in an aluminium can collection system which funnels the cans to the youth activity Center. Cans Are then sold to a local scrap Metal firm. The program is Cost effective As the Revenue is generated with Volunteer labor. Secondary benefits Are reduction in refuse volume and disposal costs and creation of awareness within the Community populace of the benefits from Recy there is a great problem that has not been addressed. It is a problem in the civilian world As Well As the military. The problem is this Why do some african americans address each other As niggers if a caucasian person used this word he she would be considered prejudiced. It is a disgrace for anyone to use such an ignorant word but for an african american to Call another that it defies the Long journey of pain and suffering we be travelled to come closer to racial Equality and it also creates an obstruction in our Homes and communities where our youths Are learning about life. Cling not Only aluminium but paper Glass cardboard and steel drink cans. Our program includes recycling All these and works As a substantial fraction of our Community population participates voluntarily. Other benefits Are keeping recycled material out of local landfills extending their useful life and in the Case of aluminium saving the German Economy 12,500 Kwh of electricity for each ton recycled. The Usa eur policy letter directing recycling unfortunately includes the caveat a if they recycling programs can be technically and economically Many people conclude out of hand for a variety of reasons that they cannot be successful. The reason we hear most often is a americans wont do we disagree. We have a higher opinion of americans and members of the . Army. Our opinion is that if you ask soldiers and . Citizens to do something worthwhile they will respond positively. The we Brucken Community is responding to our recycling program which last week presented our morale welfare and recreation programs with $65,000. A maj. Charles w. Foster director engineering and housing we Brucken West Germany i feel extra terrible hearing one of my Brothers Call the other a Nigger. Lets teach our children to be proud americans More so lets teach them to be proud people. Done to just teach them to Wear african medallions or let them listen to Public enemy hoping they will learn something. Teach them to stand up and live the Way they deserve. Yes do the right thing put up an Effort to Stop prejudiced words and racism. Become a positive example for others to follow. A airman 1st class Luis Allen Aviano a Ita Lyann Landers dear Ann Landers if a woman has a miscarriage does the Man who made her pregnant have any responsibility for the medical expenses i recently became pregnant by a Man with whom i had a four Vear relationship. When i told him the news he became angry. A How could you be so stupid a he immediately terminated the relationship. Although i am Choice i decided abortion was not an option for me and made up my mind to have the baby. I contacted my a a Friend when i Learned that i was about to miscarry. He was greatly relieved and agreed to pay my Hospital expenses. The Bill amounted to $500 but he failed to follow through. Since my name was the Only one on the Hospital records i was told that i was responsible. I Felt quite certain however that the biological father had a Legal obligation and called a lawyer. He informed me that had i a raked leaves or mowed his lawns i would be entitled to financial reimbursement but i had not done anything that required payment. It seems to me that carrying a child and then experiencing the tragedy of losing it is not the same As a having done if i had Given birth to a baby any judge in the country would have awarded me child support. Because i miscarried does it mean the father has no obligation whatever the majority of people in Utah advocate the right to life yet apparently if a woman decides not to terminate a pregnancy the father has no financial responsibility in Case of a miscarriage. Is this fair a a disillusioned . In Salt Lake City dear disillusioned paternity Laws vary from state to state. The Only Way a biological father can be held responsible for pregnancy related medical expenses is if there is a baby unless a specific Law states otherwise. In Utah apparently a single woman who wants to make absolutely certain that she is taken care of financially should avoid going to bed with a Man when the urge comes upon her and offer instead to mow his Lawn or Rake his leaves. Dear Ann Landers this letter is written on behalf of All the ministers wives who must compete with women in the congregation. My husband has served in several parishes and in every one there was at least one woman who would have been Happy to replace me. Let me describe her she always has a personal problem that needs to be discussed privately with the minister. She apologizes profusely when she telephones him at Home then proceeds to keep him on the line for 30 minutes. She is invariably the last person to leave the Church hangs around complimenting him on his Sermon inflating his ego and buttering him up. She finds All kinds of excuses to visit the Church office during the week and she volunteers for anything and everything that will give her an Opportunity to be around him. She shows up at the Hospital when she knows he will be visiting there. I Hope the women who recognize themselves will redirect their energies away from the minister and concentrate on the lord. A Tennessee dear Tennessee addressing your remarks to the a a woman is unrealistic. Its the ministers who need to see this and you can be sure that their wives will see that they do.
