European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - June 26, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse I 1 adders a a Al it if cd a a the stars and stripes a n 1 a i a Page 11 lamp v dear readers today a column is going to be a continuation of yesterdays. The subject a sex after marriage generated such an Avalanche of responses that i possibly do Justice to it in a single Day. The poll was prompted by a woman who signed herself a Content in a a contents and her husband both in their late 50s, gave up sex when they were in their 40s. She wrote a we Are extremely compatible happily married and done to feel that we Are missing a thing. The question she asked was a Are we oddballs How Many other married couples live together happily without sex a i told her id ask. To my Surprise More than 35,000 readers have responded so far and More than 65 percent of the couples Over 60 who wrote and 75 percent of the couples Over 70, have sex infrequently or not at All. What a More they done to miss it. Here is a Sample of what my mail has been like these last few Days from York a please Tell the woman in Montreal that she has a soul sister in Pennsylvania. Sex was designed for pleasure and reproduction. A a Jim and i produced seven Beautiful children and the pleasure disappeared a Long time ago. All 1 want to do is snuggle which is just Fine with him a his High blood pressure Medicine knocked out the Tiger in his tank five years ago. Jim a doctor warned us that this might happen and i had a hard time concealing my Joy. Neither of us had been interested in sex since we were in our Early 40s but we were ashamed to admit it. Now we done to need to pretend anymore. Little Rock i am 43, single three times divorced and ready for a platonic relationship. Sex in my opinion is greatly overrated. It has caused More heartache than anything i know of. Also anyone who is completely honest will Tell you that it is Messy tiresome and often disappointing. Kansas City what a Relief to read in your column that my husband and 1 Are not the Only ones. Five years ago after a two hour attempt my husband said a i Hope you wont be Hurt but its not Worth the i replied a thanks for saying so. I came to that conclusion five years i was 41 and my husband was 42, and that was the last time we tried. I am completely Happy with this Man and we love each other dearly. Portland Ore any married couple who has Good health and decides they done to like sex is As queer As a $4 Bill. I am 86 and my wife is 85. I play nine holes of Golf every Day and am sure our Active sex life is responsible for my great Golf game. I enjoy my Golf so much that i am going to keep having sex no matter what. Pasadena Calif. A More details on Deros delays provided in reference to the letter a reason for Deros delays explained a i share the same concern that the writer expressed. My question is this if the Rumor of another involuntary Extension is True and takes effect due to the no Transfer of funding to personnel programs and permanent change of station pcs moves Are rescheduled until after oct. 1, what about those who live on the Economy with contracts expiring this summer will the landlords be kind enough to extend the contract two or three months until we pcs or will they ask us to move where will a family move to for just two or three months what about our household goods and what about our children who will have to Transfer to another school in october or november they May not be very Happy staying Here two months longer a Chester Twarog Sembach a West Germany editors note a we received three replies to this letter. The first is from it. Col. James d. Kula director of assignments office of the Deputy chief of staff personnel he Safe we understand your concerns regarding involuntary Extension of Deros. This already happened for personnel with Deross of june through August. The air Force extended june Deros to aug. 15, july Deros to aug. 31, and August Deros to sept. 15. Yes there were rumours of a possible further Extension if reprogramming of funds was not approved but we do not see this happening. We do not anticipate any further involuntary Extension of Deros during fiscal year 1990. In any Case the options available to those affected by these extensions Are the same. If the landlord refuses to extend a lease temporary lodging allowance la can be authorized for the sponsor and command sponsored dependents. Once permanent change of station pcs orders have been received household goods May be transported to storage in transit. Also movement of dependents independently of the sponsor is an available option once pcs orders Are in hand. This will accommodate Early reporting of the dependents to the sponsors new duty station so they can enrol prior to the beginning of the school year. Should the sponsor elect to have dependents Complete the school term at their present location they May apply for the dependents remain overseas program. Staying overseas past Deros is Tough and we regret it had to be done. We can and will work on an individual basis if there Are unique problems or circumstances that Are caused by the Extension. Well help in every Way we can. The second reply is from col. Daniel f. Tatum jr., director. Housing and Community services office of the Deputy chief of staff engineering and services he Safe the vast majority of landlords who rent to americans understand the vagaries that sometimes accompany dealing with us. Your lease should have a military clause in it about terminating if you Are ordered away before the lease expires. We would expect that most landlords would understand about your being involuntarily extended and renew the lease for the required time. This has been our experience in the past. The most important thing to remember is to keep the communications open with your landlord and the housing office. Misconceptions and misunderstandings can be kept to a minimum if you keep them informed. Just As soon As any change to your Deros occurs Contact your housing office for assistance. They will help you negotiate with your landlord to extend your current lease and in the improbable event that an Extension cannot be negotiated they will assist you in locating temporary quarters. If need be also Contact your furnishing management office. They can Sec that you have the essential furnishings and appliances to make you comfortable until your new departure Date. The third reply is from it. Col. George t. Thomson Deputy director of transportation office of the Deputy chief of staff logistics he Safe the concern the writer expresses a what about our household goods a is an entitlement Issue which is being addressed by he Safe apr in their response. As far As shipping storing or moving household goods locally once the member is in receipt of funded orders the local traffic management office can act within entitlements to meet the members needs desires. Racism begins and ends with individuals i recently watched a television program on an a frontline racism 101.? watching the documentary of racial confrontations on University campuses culminated a myriad of deep and painful emotions for me. I was raised in an area stigmatized by racial discrimination a Rural South Carolina. It was there that i struggled within myself to Rise above even the most Sublime generalizations in the face of discrimination and social indoctrination. I have spent a considerable number of years in the Dodds school system. I was just graduated from Frankfurt High school. Throughout these years in Dodds i have been taught that racism existed in its most detrimental form in the South a generalization commonly accepted. Every time i returned Home i prepared myself to Deal with the problems of racial segregation i assumed i did no to have to confront in the Cross Section overseas. In my experiences i have Learned that racism does news ext. 237, 255, 282,226, 326. Sports ext. 225, 269,263, 332,321, 221. Features ext. 230, 245 or 341. Letters to editor ext. 208. Not exist in regions or institutions or even More importantly in one race More than another. It exists in individual people and that is How it must be slopped. I am not one to condemn anyone a views not even a racists without first considering them As valid then measuring their Merit much As i do individuals. However i have yet to find a situation to validate any prejudices and never have i known a racist to remain so once having genuinely experienced another. It is these experiences that we should promote. I found mine in sports. I am a Patriot and intend to dedicate my life in service to my country and its people. I fear no foreign Force or economic turmoil More than 1 do the thought of a nation divided. I love my country More than most can imagine but i cannot love two. A Wesley c.
