Some of them will go to 10, 15 or 20 places and get turned Down. They will Tell you the world is against them and that life is mean and unfair. They will swear they tried their dam dest to find something walked their Lect off and a there just Arentt any jobs out please Ann print this Little essay that i found in an old Book in our family Library. It was Handwritten and i have no idea who wrote it. It could be a member of the family or some Well known person. No matter who the author is this piece deserves to be seen by Large numbers of Young people who will be Job Hunting soon. Go get Mem. A Reader in Elmira . Dear Reader. Thanks for sending this excellent piece my Way. Here it is an open letter to a discouraged teen Ager dear kid today you came to me for a Job. From the look of your shoulders when you walked out i suspect that you be been turned Down before. Or maybe you believe that nobody wants to hire a kid just out of High school Well it happens that i did hire a teen Ager today. He had a big smile on his face and he wore a Necktie. What was so special about that kid experience not really. He did no to have any. It was his attitude that put him on the payroll instead of you attitude son. At to it us a. He wanted that Job bad enough to put on a clean shirt and take the time to find out something about our company before he came Down Here. He did to impress me. That s where he edged you out. You see kid folks who do the hiring look for Young people who have a spark. They want someone around who looks energetic eager and raring to go. Your first questions were a what Are the hours How Many vacations would i gel a and a How much do you pay a i knew when you asked those questions that you weren to going to get a Job Here. I care less that you re behind in your car payments. That a your problem. What i needed was someone with enthusiasm who a keep his eyes open and work for me like head work for himself. If you a have even the vaguest idea of what in a trying to say let it show the next time you go looking for a Job. If you do you la be head and shoulders above the rest. R you know kid men have always gotten jobs the same Way they get girls. They Case the situation Wear a clean shirt put their Best foot Forward and appear interested. Maybe jobs Aren t plentiful right now but a lot of us c3n remember when master craftsmen walked the streets. By comparison kids today Don t know the meaning of the word Quot scarce a you May not believe this but All around you there arc employers who Are looking like crazy for smart Alert energetic Young people. When they find one they can to wait to get him or her on their payroll. If you paid a dime s Worth of attention to what i be said today you la land a Job pretty darned soon. Good Luck. You re going to need it. Gem of the Day if you find yourself looking Forward to mondays More than fridays be careful. You Are in danger of becoming successful cd creators Syndicate a a pricing policies of cafes Are discussed what bothered me the most in the recent article on. Gaffs Gas pricing policies was the fact that some of our Gas tax is being used to subsidize the Burger Kings. They should be paying cafes for the privilege of operating a monopoly on the military bases. 1 am sure that the Burger King stockholders Are Happy with that arrangement. In the states where i have a Choice you better believe that i wont go to Burger King. I have some questions for the cafes spokesman. First who Are our representatives on the cafes Europe Exchange Council and How can we get in touch with them i assume that they Are political appoint meals and not elected. If cafes exists to serve us. As the spokesman says then we have a right to expect fairness and equal treatment to All customers and not them making a major portion of their profit on gasoline where they have a monopoly. The other question can he provide me with the rationale for the difference in the Price of cafes super unleaded and the super plus unleaded gasoline at All the Esso stations i have seen the Price difference is six pfennig per liter. At that difference and using a fest Price of $33 for 100 liners of super plus unleaded you come up with a Price of about $36.75 for 100 liners of super plus unleaded. This compares with the $38.30 that cafes currently charges. This amounts to a surcharge tax of almost 5 percent on the super plus unleaded Ora Price differential of 20 cents per gallon. This Price differential is much greater than any i have Ever seen in the states. It would seem that either Esso or cafes is not treating us customers fairly. A Walter w. Duncan Offenbach West Germany editor s note a master sgt. Dayton p. Strickland customer relations he cafes Europe. Replies unfortunately the stars and stripes article created Many false impressions one of which is yours that Burger King stockholders Are getting Rich when in fact cafes is bringing a Tittle hit of America to folks in faraway places. Actually cafes owns these Burner King franchises and the Burger King in Italy is just one example of a service we provide to troops stationed in areas where we done to make a profit. I his is something we have to accept in the performance of our Mission. The Price you pay. For super unleaded plus gasoline is driven by our Cost from Esso. We Don t sell a lot of super unleaded plus gasoline. It represents Only 1.2 percent of our total gasoline sales volume. Therefore our Cost Price is higher per unit than what it might be for a volume dealer who dispenses a larger percentage of this product. Your representatives on the cafes Europe Exchange Council Are military members who represent the army and air Force in Europe in Many different capacities. They rank from three Star general Down through specialists. I have attached a listing of the members. You can write to them through this office or through the office of the commander cafes Europe. Readers desiring a copy of the list May write to the stars and stripes. A editor Recycle household items you can to move i am very concerned about the environment and want to share an idea that could help Cut Down on chemical pollution by individual households without any sacrifices to any participants time of lifestyle. As family members in the . Armed forces we find ourselves relocating every two or three years. There arc Many items that Are not allowed to be packed during each move due to safety precautions such As aerosols flammables and corrosives. In my 12 years of experience in this transient lifestyle i find that most people dispose of these items when moving and then Purchase new supplies when setting up a new household. This is a waste to the environment and to the pocketbook. I suggest that Recycle boxes be implemented. While my husband was stationed aboard an aircraft Carrier i was a hospitality chairman for the officers wives club. I started a Recycle Box upon the suggestion of a neighbor who had used one in Italy within one month i collected three laundry baskets of donated items batteries cleansers aerosol hair products waxes and polishes bleach deodorants room fresheners aerosol Bug repellents Nail polish remover car care products Etc. All this came from just the families of officers attached to one ship. Its incredible to think what the effect could be if the enlisted wives club had done the same thing and this program was expanded to every base and ship in the armed forces. The program was quite easy to implement. Following is a suggested announcement to put in your club newsletter and base newspaper. You can also hang notices at the Post office housing office Etc. You can also mention it to the incoming personnel when they i process. Moving in or out your hospitality commit Tec to w has a Recycle Box for cleansers aerosols and other items the packers will not take. If youve recently arrived come take a a look at what we have. If you re leaving the base please consider helping replenish the Supply to e la be Happy to come pick up your items. The Recycle Box is designed to prevent waste of unused items help the environment and to help the pocket books of those setting up House All Over again Cali ext. Your number a the Only difficulty a group May find is in locating a person wilting to take on the storage problem of a Recycle Box. If that person is free to use All available products the savings to the household budget May be More than enough incentive. A Sherry e. Olivier Rota Spain 13en pals.
