I have had it taped to a Kitchen Cabinet in every place that we have lived. It has become part of my life. To my knowledge this essay has never appeared anywhere else 1 Feci strongly that every Mother Young or old should reflect on the Wisdom of this message i have applied it to my own life since i first read it. A a a a a _. Now that my children arc grown and Busy with their own lives i am glad i cherished every Day i spent with them. It was this essay that opened my eyes. Please share it with your readers. Sign me a a faithful fan dear faithful thank you for sending this sensitive and heartwarming essay. I am sure it will move millions of mothers As it moved me. Did i see myself of course i did a and they will too. Here it is dear daughter although you arc Only 4 years old and will not understand what i am saying feel the need to write this letter and put it away for you to read Many years from now. When you were an infant and the newness of being a Mother wore off i wait until up. At first i found myself wishing a if Only she would Start walking a and then a if Only she would Start talking a one Day i suddenly realized that you were out of diapers. You were indeed walking and talking and pretty soon you would be going off to school i remember the morning your father and i brought your baby sister Home from the Hospital. You and i had been apart six Days. When the door opened i saw you standing there with your Angel smile. You seemed so big compared to the baby 1 was holding in my arms. It was hard to imagine you were once that Small. I suddenly realized How much of your Babyhood 1 had wished away. Being a Mother is demanding. It robs you of so Many freedoms and 1 resented the fact that i had so Many added responsibilities. And then i looked Down at your soft curls and your trusting eyes. Suddenly i Felt so ashamed. My heart almost broke. I cannot relive those first four years but i have been trying to make them up to you a and to myself. I Hope and Pray that when your first child is born you will be Wiser and More mature than i was. I Hope you will enjoy every phase of your child a growing up wish they would hurry and pass so you could be free of the a a burdens of motherhood. You and i will have our share of heated words and angry Battles in the years to come. There will be Days when we will find it impossible to please each other. I will secretly wish that you would Hunt and graduate from High school so i could Send you Oft to College and be of you. Life rushes by All too rapidly my Darling daughter especially the Lovely Days and the Beautiful times. Be smarter than your Mother was. Done to let a single moment slip away in Savoured or unappreciated. These Days Are priceless and afford you the greatest opportunities for fulfilment. Never again will your heart be so need for something is missing from our training or rather a Lack of it. This is marksmanship training. Many Fine military schools provide excellent material for the development of Young soldiers As Well As for the experienced. Some of these schools Are now prerequisites in order for advancement but still something is missing. In the not so Distant future College degrees might be in order Loo. Fine let it be. However Usa eur is not enforcing marksmanship enough. For the truth is that no enemy has Ever had an x put on his 2404 by a basketball softball typewriter starched uniform in or inspection. This has always been the task of an accomplished Marksman. If the army can have schools where not Only credit but promotion Points can be earned that teach Basic and advanced soldiering from practically a to a i can see no reason Why a course of Basic and advanced marksmanship could not be implemented. The course could be added extra week to Ploc primary leadership development course or a separate course mandatory or optional of two to three weeks. It could cover everything from Basic zeroing effect of wind and weather sniping techniques train the Trainer Etc. Naturally we would offer a certificate As Well As promotion Points. Perhaps a ribbon we soldiers love ribbons. A unit such As the mus marksmanship training unit in the United states could be implemented Here in Europe. Its purpose would be travelling to units to not Only train their trainers but implement along with their commanders a program As solid As sergeants time and with equal frequency. The worst crime or injustice we can do to our soldiers is to deny them or neglect their most important tools in combat their weapons. With talks and actions of troop reduction lets make the Soldier even More efficient. Lets at least make sure the soldiers the army sees fit to keep also see fit to be prepared for what is ultimately their no. 1 Job a namely to defend and or fight our nations wars and stay alive. The army conducts Basic marksmanship training at All army training centers during initial entry training 1et. The army a goal is for All new soldiers to be Well grounded in shooting fundamentals when they Are assigned to units. Sustainment training continues in units on the Basic skills taught in 1et. The strategy Tor sustaining Basic marksmanship skills taught in Iet is periodic preliminary Rifle instruction followed by instructional and qualification Range firing. A critical step in the army a Overall marksmanship training strategy is to train leaders and trainers. Currently marksmanship training Tor leaders has been limited to infantry Basic noncommissioned officer courses advanced noncommissioned officer courses and Basic officer courses. Consistent with Usa eur training strategy the company commander and first sergeant Are the principal trainers within their units. They receive a comprehensive train the Trainer program during their pre command course. The instruction consists of both the fundamentals of marksmanship and the a How to for establishing unit marksmanship programs. Marksmanship training is not taught in primary Leader development courses or Basic noncommissioned officer courses. However the army has recognized this shortfall and is in the process of adding marksmanship training to these courses. 1 Usa eur is enforcing marksmanship training. Usa eur Reg 350-1 establishes individual weapon proficiency requirements. Unit commanders Are tasked to develop gunnery training programs to turn soldiers ability and equipment capabilities into lethal fighting forces. Creating real experts is the goal. Within Usa eur every Soldier assigned an m-16ai or m-16a2 Rifle will combat qualify twice annually. The Usa eur goal is for All soldiers to qualify sharpshooters and for each company size unit to maintain 50 percent of its soldiers qualified expert. Additionally As an individual incentive a soldiers most recent weapons qualification score counts for promotion Points. Usa eur has a Basic Rifle marksmanship unit located at the 7th army combined arms training Center Vilseck West Germany. A Mobile training team is available to not Only Tram leaders but to help units establish a marksmanship program. A Good marksmanship program improves unit combat readiness unit morale and results in a More effective Soldier.
