European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - October 13, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Saturday october 13, 1990 the stars and stripes a Page 11 military action urged to oust Sadda marm Landers dear Ann Landers when my husband was growing up he collected baseball cards. Like a lot of other kids he collected As a Hobby. He left hundreds of those cards in a Dresser drawer at his parents Home when he left for the service. He then married and moved to his own Home and never gave them a thought. Several weeks ago he read that certain baseball cards might be very valuable. He phoned his Mother and asked a where Are my baseball cards a his Mother said she had no idea what happened to them. He thought that was strange because she never throws anything out. She keeps letters birthday cards and junk that goes Back years. My husband insists that either his brother who now invests in and trades cards or his sister whose Young son collects them took the cards. He has questioned All eight of his Brothers and Sisters and no one will admit to having seen the cards. My own opinion is that since he showed no interest in the cards these last 25 years someone who recognized their Worth took them. Last night while visiting in his parents Home he got on the subject of those darned cards again. I finally told him to either forget it or get his family together and ask them Point Blank if they know what happened to them. He is reluctant to do this for fear of causing a huge family argument. What is your advice a collector with no collection in Madison wis. Dear Madison i am sure that everyone in the family is aware that your husband would like to know what happened to his baseball cards. Calling a meeting to extract some kind of a a confessions would net him nothing More but denials plus the Hurt feelings of those who think he is accusing them of lying. My advice is to forget the whole thing and never bring up the subject again. Dear Ann Landers in Man asthmatic who has had several severe attacks these last two years. Asthma runs in my family. A Cousin who is Only 48 is totally disabled. Many asthmatics have trouble making people believe they Are sick because they look perfectly healthy. I struggle every Day with cigarette smoke in the workplace. Even though new York City As of april 1, has a much stronger no smoking Law some people Are unaware of it. All that is needed is for one employee to complain and smoking on the floor will be banned except for private offices. I believe in individual Freedom and the right of people to do As they please but As an asthmatic i am seriously affected by cigarette smoke. People who smoke in Banks supermarkets and airports May be trying to affirm their right but they Are taking away my ability to breathe. Being sensitive to the needs of others would make this world a better place to live for smokers and nonsmokers alike. Please say so. Woodhaven . Dea Woodhaven i have. In fact in be said it so often that in a beginning to sound like a broken record. Smoking is a filthy habit and it makes some people sick. Smoking is a filthy habit and it makes some people sick. Otis Omaha and what is your son going to be when he graduates from College a c creators Syndicate As a participant in desert shield i dread the possibility of the United states becoming bogged Down in a stalemate in the Gulf. The implications for the United states prestige and ability to execute its foreign policy in the world Arena Are great. Unfortunately i done to believe there is any a a peaceful solution to the present crisis. To quote Pascal a Law without Force is and like it or not we As a world Power have a role As a world policeman in enforcing International Law. If our government has lost its resolve to fully use its military instrument in the face of Clear tyranny and acts of criminal aggression which include an invasion and the holding of american hostages then our Days As a world Leader and superpower Are waning. Saddam Hussein has every intention of remaining in Kuwait and of developing a nuclear capability which he will use to obtain his goals the destruction of Israel and regional dominance. There is Only one Way to Deal with him and it is not starving women and children in the i am a retired . Army intelligence officer who recently retired from veterans affairs and am currently touring my old assignment areas Here in Germany. I would like to pass on to All Active duty military personnel a very helpful hint. When you know you Are going to leave Active duty for the civilian world ensure that your military health records Are current and up to Date for any and All conditions if you have been treated medically while on Active duty. For the past several years i have seen Many former gis turned Down by the a when they file for compensation due to the fact that medical records were missing libraries recommended recently you printed a letter to the editor whose writer was very concerned about the environment and what we can do to save the Earth. He also Drew attention to a Book called a fifty simple things you can do to save the i agree that the Book is great and that the environmental Issue is important. But i As a librarian cannot understand Why the writer of the letter like so Many others who recommend books always refers to the Bookstore. We have Well stocked libraries in Usa eur with collections on All subjects a All paid for with tax dollars. Why not make use of them we at the Hanau military Community Library system definitely have the Book a fifty simple things you can do to save the Earth a just As we have Many other books on the same subject. But not Only do we have books on All subjects our Library also offers educational and recreational videos compact discs audio cassettes and records read along for beginning readers typewriters for Public use and much More. So readers save your dollars a rather take advantage of All the wonderful Library materials your tax dollars already bought a use your Library. A Renate Giondomenico Hanau Germany Hope of destroying his political support. This is for two reasons. First his political base comes from the barrel of a gun and a focusing of anti Western sentiments. Second the Arab people have shown themselves capable of enduring great hardships As is evident from the Iran Iraq War. Their suffering will Only further unite them in their hatred of the United states. It is a real outside Long shot that some faction within Iraq will a see the Light and take him out or that he will mend his ways and step Down. If our intentions Are purely to wait him out then we face failure because it will be a very Long wait a much longer than the patience of the american people will tolerate. I believe this is what he is counting on and that it is what May occur if we rely exclusively upon a blockade and verbal condemnation of what Are clearly acts of War on iraqis part. A capt. . Coonsjr. Operation desert shield from their files. Also Many retired military members do not know that they can get a tax Benefit by filing for a compensation after discharge retirement. Former military personnel who intend to file for compensation with the a should do so soon after discharge and within one year to reduce the number of problems that could come about. Also retain and copy your do form 214. It is a very important document and should be recorded with your local clerk of court.
