European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - October 19, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Friday october 19, 1990 the stars and stripes a a a Page 11 letters a sorrow expressed about Ramstein crash Arr Landers dear Ann Landers my Mother passed away recently. A Friend came to my Home a few Days after the funeral to make a condolence Call. She brought along a letter she had found in her fathers desk drawer after he passed away several years ago. It was from my Mother. In the letter my Mother asked this Man to please try to forget what had happened and to make a life with his wife and children. It sounded As if my Mother and my friends father might have had a Brief affair while they were both married. It May have been a one night fling. There were no details. My Mother was always considered a Paragon of virtue a pillar of society. My Friend confided that she was stunned when she found the letter but now that both principals were dead she was prepared to give it to me to tear up or do with As i pleased. The following Day i showed the letter to my sister and asked if we should show it to my father. She said we should destroy the letter at once and forget that we had Ever seen it. I disagreed. After All our father is the one who is still alive and i Felt loyalty to him should take precedence Over our mothers Good name. In my opinion he had a right to know the truth about his wife. I handed the letter to my father told him How i came to have it asked him to read it privately and then return it to me. Several Days passed and he said nothing to me about the letter. Finally i asked him Point Blank what he thought about it. I was shocked by his Cavalier attitude. He Pooh poohed the whole thing and said the letter did not indicate that my Mother and this Man had had an affair. He concluded that she was merely trying to discourage his attention without hurting his feelings. When i asked him to give the letter Back to me he said a i destroyed this is typical of the Way my father refuses to face reality and it Burns me up. I spoke to my sister about getting him some professional help so he could learn to face the truth and Deal with it but she was not in favor of it. I then talked to a lawyer about taking my father to court and forcing him to undergo therapy for his own Good. The lawyer said he would take the Case but that i would have to give him a retainer of $1,500 and there was no Assurance that the action would be successful. I really love my father and want him to be an emotionally healthy person but i done to have a lot of Money to throw away. If you run this letter in the paper done to print my name As it might Embarrass my father. Meanwhile id like your views. Sign me -t.r., Long Island . Dear Long Island professional help is definitely indicated. Your father does no to need it. You do. The deep seated hostility you Harbor for both your parents Borders on the pathological. You need to get rid of it the lawyer who offered to take your Case for a $1,500 retainer is another sweetie. I am disgusted with both of you. Dear Ann Landers i wrote the following after standing in line behind someone who smoked continuously i smoked for 17 years two packs a Day while talking on the phone after dinner in restaurants in the Homes of friends and in dozens of offices. I had the a a rights to smoke and i enjoyed it. Finally i realized i was killing myself and quit. Now years later i want to apologize to everyone i May have made sick. I am truly sorry. Not having dad or mom available to respond to special needs a both physical and emotional and yes financial too a does take its toll on the military child. Lack of concentration on academic tasks irritability fru Stra on saudi Impact Tion with mundane matters and often physical problems Are just a few symptoms of the stress that family separation creates.
