Ever since our intervention against totalitarianism in Europe and Asia during the second world War the United states has led the world s fight for Freedom. It is the Only nation both powerful enough to Check aggression and courageous enough to fight for what is right. The current threat is one which puts in peril the spirit of Freedom which swept the world in ws9, Saddam Hussein is a Homicidal maniac who threatens to hold the world hostage through control of its Oil Supply and even More horribly with the threat of weapons of mass devastation me has explicitly threatened the continued existence of Israel one of americans closest allies he has systematically destroyed the kuwaiti people and culture in a manner which can be compared to Hitler s destruction of whole nations some 50 years ago. The threat to America and to the ideals on which America was founded is Clear. Aggression left unchecked Breeds further aggression. America has bravely chosen to Lead the world in a stand which proclaims that aggression will be punished that Justice will be done. The american armed forces have responded when called upon to Check aggression in Korea in Vietnam in Grenada in Lebanon. Their courage and sacrifices were instrumental in bringing Freedom to Eastern Europe last year. Once again they have been called upon to demonstrate Lameren s resolve to resist aggression. But we have All been warned that Czechoslovakia As other Eastern bloc countries is protective of its consumer goods because of past problems in producing enough for its own citizens. It is wonderful that ideological barriers Are falling. This Means that it is a perfect time to create a Good image of americans As our contacts with Czechoslovakia increase daily we really cannot do that by presenting ourselves As a retail bullies because of the at. I can to Tell you How proud i am to be a member of this division when i see the professional. Manner in which our soldiers approached the business of going to War. It is a business which True soldiers prepare for All their military lives. War is not anything that any professional looks Forward to but it is necessary for professionals such As the soldiers in the 82nd to be prepared for at any time. We came Here to do a Job and that Job was to enforce the desires of the president and Congress of the United states. We Are Here to fight if necessary and All efforts should be directed at the business of going to War. This deployment has opened a few eyes. I Only Hope that the right eyes have seen. I flew put of fort Bragg on the first 82nd aircraft smoking toward saudi on that aircraft briefings occurred every couple of hours. Some soldiers wondered if we would be alive at the. Same time tomorrow. Would the deployment of the 82nd be the catalyst which triggered the War which would result in the almost certain death of All on that aircraft / we All walked onto that plane and prepared mentally to die if necessary.
