A matters of religious Freedom discussed a recent writer asked How fundamentalist christians Felt being told our Christian Faith and material had been labelled contraband by. A islamic fundamentalists in saudi Arabia. My reply to him is that yes we arc upset and offend cd. One of the very Basic a a fundamentals of our Faith is to share the Good news of Jesus Christ. Yes one of our religious freedoms has been infringed upon but by the same Token we Are not in our country. A islamic fundamentalists Are allowed to come into our compounds and to pass out material and proselytize for islam. Some american troops Are responding to that. We christians Are not allowed to Tell saudis about Jesus. Our material is contraband. Even the higher in our Chain of command in an Effort to appease the saudis agreed that Christian material should be considered contraband right along with liquor Playboy Hustler Etc. That a where a the shoe on the other foot pinches. We fundamentalist christians done task any More or less of what has been guaranteed to us by the . Constitution. Let me close with a couple of thoughts. All those rights found in the Constitution and Bill of rights Are based on and found in the Bible. Washing ton Jefferson Adams Franklin Hancock and a Host of others who Laid their lives on the line were Tor the most part a fundamentalist they wrote these documents based on what they believed and it shows in the Constitution the Bill of rights and the declaration of Independence. A a. A a a a tech. Sgt. David r. Shafer written during operation desert shield my unit was Given a briefing before our deployment on the customs and Courtesy of saudi Arabia. During the briefing we were told that our Faith would be kept in our hip pocket a in other words to ourselves. I need not remind you that the United states was built on the foundation of god. Our forefathers came to this country for Freedom of religion not economics not the american dream nor patriotism. Now after so Many years we have forgotten Freedom of religion and our right to exercise that Freedom and have adopted now some new quests. How can we turn our backs on god when he has so greatly blessed our nation a chief warrant officer 2 John j. Long written during operation desert shield a writer condemns Timber companies with groups such As the Oregon lands coalition around we can Only look Forward to the rapid demise of planet Earth. I can Only applaud the efforts of Mattel toys and others like them who Are at least putting Forth an Effort to save the environment. People need to Wake up and fight the Multi National Timber companies and groups such As the Oregon lands coalition. In the last few years in be witnessed the destruction of Many thousands of acres of Beautiful Hardwood forests in my Home state of Arkansas. These Forest will never recover nor will the eco systems which they supported. The Timber companies refuse to Plant hardwoods in their place. Fast growing Pine Trees take their place. How Many species do you know that survive from Pine Needles in a sad to say that our states motto a the natural state a no longer applies in a sure if the state of Oregon resembles anything similar to Arkansas once Beautiful land it is no wonder such a fight is go mpg on with the Earth killers. They must be stopped now. What was once a Beautiful Forest is now a Barren desolate landscape resembling a War zone. It does no to take a Genius to figure out what has become of the wildlife Plant and insect species that once had a Home. The logging Industry has already proven there can to be a reasonable balance when it come to the environment. They have made their intentions Clear. A a spec. Gary w. All i am asking is that we All take time to remember the extra Days and longer hours these individuals put in Over the. Holiday season so that ours was a bit brighter. Instead of complaining All the time take a Little time to let them know How much they Are appreciated. A staff sgt. Donald a. Altermatt Bremerhaven Germany dear Ann Landers i was horrified by the letter from the woman in Kitchener Ontario who said Young children should not be brought to museums and Art galleries because their screaming and crying disturbs the adults. Tell me please when Are you supposed to bring children to cultural events should we wait until they Are 13 and All they Are interested in is video games maybe we should also keep children out of churches and synagogues. I am a working Mother who wants to spend As much time with my children As possible. On weekends move to take them to Art galleries. Its a wonderful inexpensive Way to enjoy something together and teach them about the Beautiful things in life. There is so much ugliness in the world today. Your correspondent suggested that Young children be left Home with a Sitter. How Are they going to learn to behave in Public if they Are never taken anywhere i was disappointed that you did no to clobber that woman. She needed to be put in her place and you did no to do it.
