A i would like to ask physical education Tea chars everywhere if they Are aware of the damage they do to a child a self esteem when they have student captains choose team members in gym class. A this Type of selection needs to be stopped and in a sure it would be if these teachers knew what it Felt like to be the last person chosen for a team. I speak from experience. I was never very athletic in school probably because i was never encouraged. I was soon labelled As no athletic and grew to fear and despise gym classes. A team selection by fellow classmates was one of the m6st humiliating experiences of my life a the ultimate. In rejection. To be the one left standing the one that no on a wan Tedt left me scarred emotion n Al on building my self esteem and i hate team sports to this very Day. Please Ann Tell your readers to ask their children How team selection is made in their physical education classes. If this painful method of being chosen by the Captain is used the parents should go to school and take this column with them. There Are Many other ways to choose teams for example counting off by twos or threes or having the teacher make the selection. Thanks for helping make this world a better place. No Jock in a. Do Var a. T i was no Jock either and i too remember the embarrassment at being the last chosen. It was awful and in retrospect i done to know How the gym teachers could have been so insensitive. I have dealt with this subject in the column before but its one that bears repeating. Thanks for writing. I Hope it helps.
