I was injured and sent to 5th Mash in Dhahran. I had surgery and was there about four weeks before being released and sent Back to the desert. An infection set in and i was sent to 46th lbs Hospital. I stayed there for two weeks and was released. A a special no sgt. 1st class Robert Gaines of the 24 inf div a rear division surgeons office would come to 46th lbs Hospital and others nearby each Day. He would come in and Check on All of the 24th inf div troops. He brought them newspapers magazines and other Reading materials As Well As a big White bag. Boy did i wish 1 could get one. In this bag was shaving a Cream lotion Candy writing tablets pens and All sorts of Good things. A you see sgt. 1st class Gaines Job was taking care of troops. Even if their units did no to come by Gaines would always be there. A few troops such As myself Hadnot heard from our units. But Gaines came by each Day and stopped by my bed. He asked if my unit had been to see me. I said a not yet they May still be on a class  so sgt. 1st class Gaines gave me one of those bags. He also got my name and  i asked him what his Job was.
