Up four children were swept away in the Rushing Waters of the rain swollen Calaveras River on wednesday and divers recovered one body before suspending the search until Daylight. A fifth child was Able to swim  five children All under 10, were apparently wading in a shallow Pool next to the fast moving River when they got caught in an undercurrent said Stockton fire department spokesman John Litz. Fire officials speculated that one child waded out too far was swept away and the others tried to save him. The Calaveras River normally has Little or no water but two Days of pouring rain created a Rush of water 20 feet to 30 feet wide and 15 feet deep Litz said. The children were believed to be residents of an apartment Complex that overlooks the River. Someone from the Complex witnessed the incident and notified the fire department. About 50 Rescue workers from the coast guard and a number of Sacramento county agencies combed the Waters with the assistance of a helicopter. Firefighters stationed themselves at various locations downstream hoping to catch sight of the children. About 3vz hours into the search divers recovered the body of one victim within 500 feet of where the children entered the water. The search was suspended shortly before 11 . And a fire dispatcher said divers would return to the water at Daylight. Police were posted along the Riverbank throughout the night but authorities held out Little Hope of finding survivors.
