Letters to the editor Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf and a kuwaiti officer show off a bottle of Sand at a kuwaiti Beach in March. Why can Schwarzkopf bring in Sand when Soldier can to on my departure from saudi Arabia we went through customs. I was amazed when i saw a customs agent confiscate a Small bottle of Sand from a soldiers bag. Quot to the customs agent told the Soldier he take the Sand Home with him. The bottle was a Tabasco sauce bottle that had been emptied washed and filled with the Sand. I am wondering if there is a double Standard for different Levels of soldiers in the . Army. As i recall a front Page picture showed Gen h. Norman Schwarzkopf accompanied by a kuwaiti officer filling a Small bottle with Sand As a memento. If it was Good enough for the Gener Al and Leader of . Forces in the persian Gulf it be Good enough for All of the soldiers under his command Isnit he leading by set Ting the example if so then any Soldier should be Able to bring a Small bottle of Sand Home As a memento. A sgt. Victor Becker operation desert storm soldiers a poll differs after Reading an article in the stars and stripes concerning homosexuals and whether they should be allowed to serve in the armed forces i became outraged. According to the article a so called poll had been conducted. It calculated an average showing of 80 percent in favor of a homosexuals Entrance into the service. It appears that most of the individuals polled were non military. Well i decided to do a bit of polling myself and so put the question out to some fellow soldiers a should homosexuals be allowed to serve a the answers were no Surprise. Responses varied from casual a a not a Quot to Stern replies that were unmentionable if not just unprintable. In Short and i believe i speak for a considerable number of people when i say this i done to think it would be an acceptable ethical measure for the service to admit homosexuals to serve in the armed forces. The present situation already has us 1 facing a fairly dangerous number of these a a Many a Many types still serving undetected in the . Forces. A pvt. 2 Erik m. Stoner Mannheim Germany they worked hard Loo a a. A. A a recent letter stated that there was no comparison Between the jobs sew ice member performed in the persian Gulf and the jobs done in support of the persian Gulf War. 1 have to disagree. There were a lot of similarities Only the jobs were done in different types of weather. A lets look at the similarities. Our husbands and wives worked four 12-and 24-hour shifts. Som even worked three Days on one Day off. And believe me As the wife of one of those husbands left behind when he was at Home his mind heart and soul were in the persian Gulf right beside you. They worked Long hard hours to protect your family and loved ones As Well As their own from the terrorist threats you spoke of. And As for the extreme heat you worked in our husbands and wives were in extreme cold Snow ice and sometimes Hail. But like you they did no to complain. They were also doing their jobs and we Are very proud of them and the jobs they did. So you see to hexes really Are some comparisons. Many letters especially ones that a re delayed simply open when the glue that seals the envelope wears out. In order to Stop delays make certain that All corresponded have your Correct mailing address showing your unit. If your Bike was insured have the company or person who mailed it to you go to the local Post office and put a tracer on it. If you have any further questions it has been my experience that the local Apo can either help or put you in touch with someone who can. A Lance l. Lane or.
