Harris Ober Auerbach Germany u James Mccrindle executive director arc Europe replies i m pleased that you enjoyed the Tours offered at arc Garmisch and the Praise for the program is much appreciated. Arc plans to continue offering the same High Quality reasonably priced Tours in the future. While it is True we Are currently attempting to establish a contract tour operation the existing requirements and High standards established for our in House tour operation will be included in our contract specifications. Also included in the contract specifications is the necessity for English speaking tour guides the Point you make about the bus Driver is noted in the first place our transportation Section should never have scheduled a bus Driver to pick you up unless he knew exactly where he was to take you. That has nothing to do with the language requirement and i apologize for this error. Second Many of the arc Drivers who take Tours do not speak English either. That a one reason we insist on having English speaking tour guides. While we encourage hiring Drivers who speak and understand English it is not a condition of employment for us. A your comment concerning expedited entry into the castles is also a Good one. We Are taking this into consideration and intend to keep this privilege despite our efforts to use contract tour companies. We intend to encourage the company or companies we will use As contractors to hire and use those tour guides currently working for arc Garmisch to guide arc Tours in the future. These individuals As you stated Are highly trained professional tour guides who know the area and our clientele. We recognize their Worth As tour guides and will do everything in our Power to use their services in the future. Since this initiative to contract Tours is a relatively new concept and will not take place until mid september at the earliest Many of our employees do not fully understand All of the preconditions we Are establishing which a new contractor will have to adhere to. As a result of your letter i have directed the recreation director to Brief each employee at the Tours office thoroughly on this initiative to prevent misunderstandings or misinformation especially to our guests in the future. Finally you May be interested in knowing that the tour guide you mentioned has been selected As the arc Garmisch employee of the Quarter for january March 1991.1 can see Why you would feel strongly about keeping this Quality of person guiding arc Tours.
