I have never caught any endangered species or any Birds in my traps though they inhabit the areas i trapped. Any non target animals i have caught in my leg hold traps have been released unharmed because a properly set trap minimizes damage to the animal and does not break any Bones. Over the years i have on occasion caught my own fingers while setting my traps. I still have 10 there Are no stubs or broken Bones and they All work Fine thank you. And with the need to Check traps daily As most states and common sense require few animals will Chew their legs off or break their Teeth in an Effort to escape. No responsible trapper wants his area populated with three legged game.
