Rain fell in some parts of the South including Atlanta and new Orleans. A disturbance moving across Southern Canada was expected to create two warm ridges of High pressure one entered Over the West and another Over Southeast Canada. The Western Ridge was Likely to maintain a heat wave stretching across the Middle third of the nation from the Southwest across the Rockies to the Central and Northern Plains and the great lakes. In the West rain was Likely in Eastern Washington and Oregon. Strong thunderstorms were expected across Utah Nevada and Southern Idaho. The Southeastern Ridge was expected to pull hot air from the great lakes into the Northeast causing rapidly rising temperatures. Cooling thunderstorms were forecast for Northern new England and the Southeast coastal areas. Highs tuesday were expected to be in the 90s throughout the Middle third of the nation with temperatures soaring above 100 in the Dakotas Nebraska and Southern Arizona and Texas. Highs in the 80s were forecast throughout most of the Northeast and the West with some highs in the 70s in Northern new England and Northern Washington state. The High temperature for the nation monday was 112 degrees at Bullhead City Ariz.
