Fault a letter in the stars and stripes the other Day implied that an employee driving a government vehicle is taking a Large risk and that he will probably have to pay damages should an Accident occur. I think this is a misrepresentation and needs clarification. The criteria for fixing financial liability basically comes Down to a matter of negligence which is far different from Quot fault. Negligence is defined As not acting in a prudent manner. If you As a Driver were driving prudently safely you will not be found negligent and will not have to pay the repair costs of that government vehicle. In fact you could be legally at fault and even fined on the spot bus Geld by the German police yet not be Pecunia Rily liable under the report of Survey system. For example you could skid and hit someone else. The police could charge you for driving too fast for conditions or perhaps failure to maintain distance. But if you can show that you were going at a reasonable prudent Speed for the conditions then you will not be found liable As a result of a report of Survey. Fault is not the sole determining Factor in a finding of pecuniary liability. As the current country hit says Quot keep it Between the lines a and you should have nothing to worry about. A Nicholas she Stople # Fulda German defending your rights i think that i have figured out Why certain individuals want to disarm everyone except the police and the military. There Are different reasons. The first situation that comes to mind is the White Collar criminal. Instead of using his or her education and technical expertise to better his or her Community this criminal uses existing often archaic statutes to further personal gain at the Cost of individuals and sometimes entire communities. Think about the savings and loan scandals and Urban renewal programs like the one that decimated my Community in Prince Georges county in Maryland. The people who get ripped off usually done to have the funds to fight a court Battle to get their funds Back or find a decent place to live. However just like in 1776, an armed citizen does have the option of retribution. This retribution Factor gets the attention of criminals at All Levels of american society and regardless of what anyone else might say in this column was purposefully intended by the second amendment of the Constitution a deterrence against corruption and tyranny. A second situation May be even simpler to understand. Some people feel extremely uncomfortable with firearms. Quite a few people whom i have deep respect for hate firearms. Examine the situation of fumigating an apartment Complex. If you done to fumigate your apartment at the same time everyone else does the Roaches and Silverfish May come to see you regardless of How clean your place is to avoid extermination. Perhaps some of these anti gunners realize that if a significant percentage of the american population arms itself the chances of an unarmed citizen and his household being victimized will substantially increase. This places the anti gunner Between a Rock and a hard place. Does he pick up that a hated implement of destruction or wait until something happens to either him her or the respective family. I say that it is the Choice of every legally qualified individual whether or not to be armed. Let the anti gunner make his or her Choice and ill make mine. No one s beliefs should be Force fed to another. However one must have the intestinal fortitude to accept the consequences of his or her beliefs. Ill accept mine while in a still armed thank you. First of All it is very damaging for a car to be started in the cold and driven off without being warmed up damaging possibilities Are a cracked Block and or a Rod through the engine requiring an entirely new engine which for an american car in Germany is simply too expensive to do two or three times on a three year tour. Secondly the majority of american cars run on super unleaded or regular unleaded gasoline which run a whole lot cleaner than the big Gas guzzling Mercedes Benz and bows that run on diesel. Daniel w. Little Herzog Nakrach German upset by inaccuracies to Many of us overseas the stars and stripes is the closest thing we have to a Hometown newspaper. It is noted for its honesty truthfulness and reliability because of your Superb reputation for accuracy we were recently very upset by your article nov. 13 concerning the death of staff sgt. Victor d. Marvick. This Fine no was highly regarded by All of us in Ankara and the inaccuracies in your article shocked us All. We consider the Lack of verification of the a article which was the basis for your report to be a major oversight on the part of the stars and stripes staff. The joint turkish-. Logistics group mentioned in the article does not exist. Staff sgt. Marvick was a computer technician in the 7217th comm letters to the editor a cations group part of the United states logistics group Tus log a a . Air Force organization. While the fact that staff sgt. Marvick was an airman not a Soldier is of Little substantive consequence it should have been further evidence of the articles Lack of Validity. The truly significant errors in the article have caused considerable concern throughout the local military Community. No . Personnel from our organization have taken part in turkish Antiterrorist or crime fighting activities. Most alarming to us was the last sentence which states staff sgt. Marvick refused police Protection because he was a martial arts expert. He did not refuse police Protection and was very thorough in his personal Security measures. He inspected his vehicle before the explosion but due to the size and positioning of the device it was not detected. Finally since the article gave the impression that staff sgt. Marvick was targeted a for cause a Many people in the Community Felt Safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. People must continue to be Alert not lulled into apathy. I Hope and Trust you will print a correction and help repair your grave disservice to this Fine airman and to our Small Community. Staff sgt. Leonard Friedlander Ankara Turkey editor s note a the report published in the stars and stripes was provided by the associated press which attributed the information to i turkish daily newspaper and noted Flat police declined to comment. It is not always possible to verily information contained in wire service stories prior to look at and this is in reference to a recent writers biased opinion toward that so called holy Sanctuary known As notre Dame football. With its touchdown Jesus and its flashy new $43 million to contract with Abc the writer called notre Dame the epitome of College football. I done to disagree with that entirely. When some people think of College football notre Dame with its great tradition often Springs to mind. However sometimes places like Ann Arbor Austin Fayetteville Norman College station Tallahassee Gainesville Miami Lincoln Columbus and Tuscaloosa enter our minds. I do agree that notre Dame should be in a bowl game. The Irish had an outstanding regular season and is being rewarded for its efforts.
