We could not have foreseen that the Warsaw pact would dissolve and the nations of the pact would be trying to join nato. It would be difficult to believe that Germany would once again be one nation. Although there Are still major problems in the world Many have been overcome and others Are finally being addressed. Tremendous events have been happening in this world. I Only wonder if our nation can pull together to solve the problems within. We still have problems with our Economy rampant crime in our cities our judicial and health care systems arc Bro in and the educational system continues to stagger along. It is very hard to imagine a time when republicans and democrats put aside Petty differences and truly joined to try to solve our own nation s problems. 1 doubt if the politicians will Ever unite to work out the problems. I Hope they prove me wrong. A sgt. 1st class James r. Gilchrist Frankfurt Germany color control is simple giving someone Ivi column inches to expound on Why an should ban colonized films is a bit much. The solution is much easier. Every color television has a color or Hue control allowing the viewer to make any film appear in Black and White. Instead of Banning colonized films i suggest an run a Short Leader at the beginning telling viewers a especially those viewers who can t think for themselves a to adjust their sets if they wish to watch the film in its original monochrome Hue. A Gary l. Dikkers Otterbach German pow or of the pen several people have recently written to the stars and stripes bemoaning the loss of their children s teachers at midyear due to the Lack of planning by Dod department of defense and Dodds department of defense dependents schools regarding the draw Down. It does no Good to write to the stars and stripes nor to your Community commander nor even to Gen. Crosbie e. Saint or Gen. John r. Galvin. It is essential to write to those who can influence the decision. The first interface Between Dod and Dodds is at the Secretary of defense level. They answer to Congress. Take the time to write your congressman and senators you can find their names at your Library to sen. Sam Nunn chairman of the Senate armed services committee and rep. Les Aspin chairman of the House armed services committee to Secretary of defense Dick Cheney and to or. John Stremple director of Dodds. A Carol Hammerson Vaihinger German cadets not that advanced this is in reference to the article a Law affecting military academies unfair to graduates officials speaking on behalf of All Roth oct graduates id like to see some proof statistics that support col. Wallace a claim that Academy graduates Are five or six years ahead of other officer program graduates. That has got to be one of the most ridiculous statements that i have Ever read. Making Academy graduates compete with Roth oct graduates for regular commissions probably will Hurt the academies recruiting but with hard work a Cadet can still receive a regular commission rather than a Reserve commission. If these Academy graduates Are Quot five or six Quot years ahead of Roth oct graduates they should receive a regular commission anyway they or Why not just commission them As captains joke i recommend we ask Gen. Colin Powell for his opinion. But it probably wont be Good enough. He was Only an Roth graduate. A Derek a. That Young airman does no to realize it but he was very helpful to my sanity through All of this. Keith Watkins pm not sure where he is stationed but he was at Frankfurt that night nov 19. He was instrumental in getting my bags checked Early so i have to carry them 30-plus hours. I also want to thank two retired gentlemen the first Bill Jenkins who was travelling space a from California. He taught my daughters that just because things did no to go As planned there was still adventure to be found. And Quot Wally Quot who is employed by the commissary in Turkey a Izmir i think. He helped me get through to my husband and his command As they waited for my much delayed arrival. So even though my 1 /2-Day trip took four Days i still feel very Lucky that i met these wonderful and caring people. No matter where our Tours carry us. Its Nice to know that people still take time to show compassion. Remember a Little goes a Long Way. A Kathy Gorrell in Ciurlik a Turkey pen pal against cancelling debt a recent front Page read Quot Dod to cancel i overpayment 1 had the pleasure to have served for 29 months in a combat zone Vietnam and no one Ever mentioned letting us forget any Type of debt that we might have incurred. With the draw Downs in the services in the states and done to forget the National debt the last thing our government needs to do is forget debts. First it was acs that let most of its debts ride and then they had the audacity to turn around and ask for donations. Now our government does the same. What do they want in return As members of the military we should be responsible individuals and when there is some Type of overpayment or debt it should he repaid without hesitation. Just imagine How much Good $79,7 million could do a sgt. 1st class John f. Allen Frankfurt Germany people saved her sanity a i know this letter is lengthy but so often we Lake the kindness of others for granted. My two daughters Ages 9 and 10 and i followed my husband to in Ciurlik a Turkey on a trip that began nov. 17. Because of numerous complications a every thing from a major fuel leak a stewardess who spilled scalding water on my daughters legs and an alcoholic beverage on mine to a c-141 that lost its Hatch in flight a i barely made it with my sanity. The Point of my letter is to say a thank you to the wonderful individuals who not Only made the trip bearable hut without whom it could not have been made As enjoyable As it was in spite of the difficulties. I would like to thank staff sgt. Timms at the Mac terminal in Philadelphia.
