European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - January 29, 1992, Darmstadt, Hesse Ann Landers dear Ann Landers i was pleased that the Wisconsin couple who were afraid to file their income tax returns after seven years finally did it and their Story had a Happy ending. With the help of student volunteers from the University of Wisconsin Law school the couple completed Federal and state tax returns and arranged a payback schedule through the internal Revenue service office. It s Good that these taxpayers Are Back in the system and i Salute those students for their compassion. Unfortunately there Are All too Many families who owe Back taxes and Are too frightened to come Forward. Even sadder Are those who Don t file not realizing they might be due a refund. It is a terrible indictment of our system that citizens Are afraid of our government. Ann please let your readers know that if they Are having trouble paying their taxes whether it be financial difficulty or confusion Over the instructions on the tax forms they should get in touch with their local irs office and ask for help. In 1991, More than 88,000 volunteers assisted 6.1 million people in programs such As tax counselling for dear Abby dear Abby my wife and i have a big disagreement about whether women should sit at the bar when tables Are available to them. She feels that As Long As she is with a Girlfriend or Girlfriend sit is perfectly All right. I disagree. As a male i have a fairly Good idea about How most men think. For the most part when a Man walks into a bar looking for someone to hit on if he sees a woman sitting at the bar he figures she a probably looking for company. Like i said my wife disagrees. We both respect your opinion. How do you vote on this j. In Chicago dear a woman May sit at the bar because a she wants to be seen b she May want to be hit upon or c she May just want to make conversation with the bartender. A woman sitting alone at a table in a bar could be looking for company a if that a what she came in for. I vote for your wife a sitting wherever she feels comfortable a As Long As she behaves herself and remembers to say a no thank you in a married a if she a offered More than a drink. Dear Abby you have often urged of their teen agers with but now that drugs have comment on How much should have. There Are out there. C creators Syndicate inc. Dear one there is a vast difference Between parents invading their children a privacy out of curiosity and parents who have reason to suspect that their children Are involved with drugs. Because drug involvement can be fatal parents have not Only the right but an obligation to learn As much As they can by whatever Means available to them. God will forgive them. And so will their children eventually. Dear Abby. I have a suggestion regarding sending cards to Hospital patients. Instead of your own return address write the patients Home address in the a return address Corner. That Way if the patient has already been discharged the card will be sent to his or her Home address not yours. Patty Williams Excelsior Minn. Dear Patty thanks for an excellent suggestion. And speaking of cards please read on dear Abby done to people read the messages on cards before they Send them obviously some do not and i wish they would. While my husband now deceased was in the Hospital with a terminal illness he received Many cards from friends and co workers who were aware that he was terminally ill. Some cards bore cheery messages such As a i hear you re coming Home soon a a get Well fast and a we have a lot of catching up to do a he appreciated being remembered but a simple a thinking of you card would have done More for his morale.
