Senior officials will conduct an analysis of Force Structure requirements and Secretary of the air Force Donald b. Rice will then determine the number of captains and majors to be retired under the boards. By Law no More than 30 percent of the eligible population considered by any one Board can be selected for Early retirement. Those eligible Are captains with a Date of rank of May 31,1989, or earlier and majors with a Date of rank of oct. 1, 1991, or earlier. They must have at least 19 years of total Active service and at least seven of those years As commissioned officers As of june 1. Officers who already have approved retirement dates any time in fiscal 1992 or fiscal 1993 will not be considered officials said. Others who Are Safe from the boards Are majors already selected for promotion to lieutenant colonel captains selected by the 1991 major promotion Board and All non line officers. A a line officers generally include All officers except those in medical or Legal Fields and the chaplains corps. About two months before the boards Convene eligible officers will receive a records packet for their review. At that time they will have the Chance to submit information to the Board that May not be included in their records. Those selected by the boards can choose their own retirement dates although it cannot be later than the first Day of the seventh month after the Board results Are approved by air Force officials.
