The name of the killer George Hen Nard was never mentioned during the ceremony nor was the tragedy itself. Hennard drove his pickup truck through a floor to ceiling window and opened fire into the lunchtime crowd of about 100 people. By the time police arrived 22 people had been fatally shot and another 18 were wounded. One of the wounded died later. Hennard was eventually cornered by officers and killed himself.
