Any time we could get our hands on a copy of the stars and stripes we did so. The news is timely objective and accurate. Your letters to the editor Are enlightening. Our thanks for helping to make our visit a pleasant one. A Oscar g. Price or. Cropwell Ala. A respect our facilities Ive been meaning to write this letter for a very Long time regarding respect for Public private property. The exam be that comes to mind is the ladies bathroom at the Rhein main by. A few years ago it was closed for a period of about six weeks or so for renovations. I thought great at least when it s finished we might have a facility Worth using. At last the bathroom was reopened. It had a new tile floor new fixtures mirrors and a baby changing table. It was really Nice and functional. Not More than two months later the place was a mess. Mirrors were taken off the Wall. The knobs on the stall doors were missing or no longer working. The toilet seats were barely hanging on. The toilet flush casing was ripped off the Wall and forget the toilet paper hangers. Now you re probably wondering Why is this woman sounding off about the bathroom it s not just the bathroom it s everything. The facilities on our military installations Are provided for our convenience the movie theater the gym All of the mar facilities. If we destroy them we Are Only hurting ourselves. I done to know who is responsible for such destruction but it s pretty sad that people have nothing better to do than hang out and destroy things. When i was growing up we were taught respect for other Peoples property. You used facilities and left them As you found them hopefully in decent condition. If we want to change America for the better we must Start with ourselves and instill values and a sense of right and wrong not anything goes in our children if someone makes something better lets take care of it. A Beth Bergen Rhein main a Germany j a careless act dangerous this is addressed to the children of Frankfurt Middle school and their parents. I was driving my car during the Frankfurt Rush hour traffic. As 1 approached the City bus Stop in front of Drake Cavern i observed approximately 50 youths waiting for the bus. As i passed a youth standing in the Middle of the group tossed a soda can in front of my vehicle. It struck the Center of the front Windshield. My first reaction swerve to the right fortunately for your child i chose to swerve into oncoming traffic. Fortunately for my family the oncoming Driver saw me coming. We narrowly avoided a collision. I immediately pulled to the Side of the Road and asked a who threw it a As i expected not one child saw or knew anything about what happened. There was a my following a Short distance behind me who stopped. Each child was questioned by the my or me about the incident still no one saw a thing. How Many times have you read a news article where a car plows through people on the sidewalk and kills a child or children All because someone did something stupid. Parents please talk to your children. Remind them that things done on the Spur of the moment can Cost someone their life. Tell them How close they came. By their attitudes on the Street today i know they done to care. Do you a staff sgt. Dewey a. To hold soldiers liable for Friendly fire incidents will invoke a reluctance to engage. This reluctance in an already confused unclear stressful environment will result in Friendly forces being engaged and killed by enemy forces due to fear of reprisal for firing upon possible Friendly forces. Accomplishing the Mission a in Good Faith a must override the need for 100 percent confirmation that the target is the enemy. A 1st it. . Church Berlin a a 4reducing hatred in be tried to raise my children to be Colo Blind so they Sec someone As a person not As a Black White yellow or red person. But in a fighting a losing Battle because people expound on their differences rather than similarities. Now my children come Home and say they re going to play with their a Black Quot Friend not just their Friend. Something has gone terribly wrong when we exploit our differences in the name of Equality. Something is wrong also if we think race gender or sexual orientation causes the Only hate out there. I know an army officer who lamented the fact he was being sent Down among All those a Mackerel snappers catholics. In be heard remarks that most Catholic priests and nuns Are either child abusers or Gay. There Are those who will Tell you that the holocaust was a lie that the Vatican hid nazis that the jews control the Media or that All italians belong to the mafia. Hate comes in All shapes and sizes. Its easy to attack groups like the Neo nazis skinheads and the Kun flux klan because their hate is open. The real problem is hidden hatred camouflaged hatred. We listen to those who use religion affirmative action or some other Noble cause As a cover for their hatred. Why is it that if i disagree with someone a opinion that ancient Egypt was a Black culture 1 risk being called a racist if i disagree with israelis handling of the palestinians in Man anti semite f i disagree with special treatment for Gays in a a homophobe. Only by expressing our opinions and talking to each other can we Hope to reduce the hatred. Isnit the Issue of unemployment alcohol and drug abuse among american indians a greater Issue than sports teams names when we can see each other As Brothers and Sisters a Black or White Rich or poor Gay or straight male or female Christian or jew Catholic or protestant a then Martin Luther King Hope for this world will be realized and Well All be free at last. Free from the hatred and mistrust that ruins us All. A Patrick Ludwa Heilbronn Germany a in defense of Joe Bob this is in response to a Joe Bob should go May 31. As this is the second letter on this subject in As Many weeks i feel 1 must make a stand for the other Side. One question. What gives the writer the right to make moral decisions for me one of the things i swore to defend when i put on this uniform was Freedom. When i read an article that offends me or hear a song on the radio or see a program on an that offends me i done to attempt to deny others the right to enjoy it. I do the mature thing. I turn the Page or turn off the stereo or television. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to read something you dislike. The stars and stripes is All we have As a real american newspaper overseas. The folks at stripes Are doing a great Job trying to please everyone. I applaud them and Hope they continue to oppose censorship in All of its ugly forms. Thank you stars and stripes for printing this and keep up the Good Job. A Brad Schmidt Frankfurt Germany 4 Praise for Schroeder it Pat Schroeder is my heroine. There in be said it. It seems like every letter written about her is negative at least in the stars and stripes. Although in a a quiet sort of person i feel 1 must enter my opinions into the fray. I am extremely grateful for the uniformed services former spouses Protection act. If a military husband does not approve of it then he should encourage his wife to attend the necessary schools to enable her to support herself if it should become necessary. I do approve of sending our military forces Home. It s High time Europe pays for and provides its own peace enforcement forces. Since our presence Here does seem to help keep the pot from boiling Over i do not object to our maintaining some Small role Here. I see no reason Why homosexual persons should be excluded from our armed forces. Sexual preferences should be kept private. They Are a persons own business. Pat Schroeder is Choice on birth control and so am 1. I think All people should be provided with knowledge about sex and learn to Deal with it in a responsible informed Way As Early As seems necessary. A Gloria b. De Rouen Gunter Blum Germany
