Try to find a Book that is published in a series and see what i mean. They have volume i and 3, but volume 2 might not show up for a year the discounts Are poor to nonexistent and the service is even worse. Magazines that people want Are no where to be found but one can find 73 copies of custom Home plans or architectural digest. The latest comics that Are blockbuster Sellers in the United states Are unheard of Here. The hottest Book in a Long while Sucrase Fara showed up and was available for 10 Days. Since then it has been a on order a that old Catchall phrase they love so much. It we All know that the bookstores get an a of a As far As Quality of service to the troops is concerned. Stars and stripes had the Chance proved they do it and should stick to printing the newspaper. Congress needs to make the shift to cafes As soon As possible so that the troops left Here can at least have an outfit that cares about them providing books at affordable prices. A Corey a Senna Darmstadt Germany not so fast cafes in reference to a a cafes can run stripes bookstores general says aug. 4is this cafes proposal based on another ridiculous self serving study founded on absurd assumptions such As when cafes took Over the class six assuming that it would take Over the inventory for nothing and make millions anyone who has been in Europe for some time knows that this turnover ended up As yet another expensive cafes miscalculation. And then there was the military clothing store a that was going to save the service person Money under cafes control. Wrong again. A the stars and stripes has had managerial problems for years primarily because of attempts to Force feed the bookstores what Darmstadt thinks people want. How docs cafes feel that this problem can be fixed since we All know the results of a fest Force feeding stores with merchandise. I Hope Congress has the intelligence to examine a fest history of being absolutely wrong whenever it makes a a a study to determine if it can do something better than someone else. In fact any time an outsider makes a study and determines they Are better capable of running any operation than the current management any prudent observer can Only suspect a real conflict of interest. A Peter k. Pullen Augsburg Germany draw Down dental Drill a recent experience at the Nimberg dental facility gave me concern about what service members and our dependents can expect for dental care in Europe my wife recently had several partial Root canals performed at the clinic. She was told the work could be started at Nimberg but would have to be finished by a German dentist. Upon querying German dentists from the list provided by the clinic we were told the minimum Cost to us would be 1,600 Marks about $1,000. This was unacceptable so we sought treatment elsewhere. We decided to canvass other military hospitals and called Erlanger no a dental facility there was someone qualified who was willing to do the work. Since the clinics policy is to review patient dental records prior to making an appointment which cannot be made Over the phoneme had to take my wife a records there. The clinic was Only 10 Miles away so we thought it was no big Deal. We went to Nurnberg a dental clinic to pick up the records. The dental clinic no in charge explained that an army regulation prevented signing out of records even to the sponsor except for a dental appointment or reassignment to another duty station. The Erlanger dental clinic which is less than 10 Miles away will not make appointments by Telephone even for the Librn Borg dental clinic which is the regional medical dental treatment facility in the area. You can to make an appointment without records and you can to get records without an appointment. After talking to the 7th medical come and getting nothing resolved the Nimberg clinic first sergeant called the Erlanger clinic first sergeant. They agreed to schedule us for an appointment at Erlanger and continue to adhere to an unofficial future policy of having people coordinate this Way to make appointments Between the two clinics. This was after almost two hours of negotiation. If i need to arrange treatment again somewhere else we will have to go through this All Over again. As a senior enlisted Leader in a concerned that people will get lost in this a wilderness of medical bureaucracy. A either they will not get adequate care or they especially Junior personnel will end up paying exorbitant costs. A master Sefc Matthew Martin Munich Germany. A a a. Commentary Money mess threatening Union by Sally Jacobsen in managing to Salvage their battered monetary system european Community officials May have doomed their ultimate goal of an economic and monetary Union. By deciding this month to give their currencies More room to fluctuate finance chiefs delayed indefinitely the efforts to create a joint Central Bank and a single Money. A it s a huge step backward from what we wanted in the maastricht treaty a acknowledged dutch finance minister Wim Kok although he later said officials had no other Choice to avoid the collapse at pre Shpen % warm chairman Rosm Mostu in scr a coup. Aren t your plans to Moya a health care &u-1hrouch his committee of the european monetary system. The Unity treaty negotiated by leaders in 1991 in the dutch town of maastricht sets out strict timetable for the monetary merger. It can be formed no later than 1999, but even that deadline now appears out of reach. The plans were dealt the possibly fatal blow aug. 2 when finance ministers after frantic weekend negotiations agreed to let their currencies swing in wide bands in the 14-year-old monetary system. In effect they let the currencies float scrapping the rigid margins set to restrain their fluctuations. The officials were gambling they could fend off speculative attacks on foreign Exchange markets that had weakened the French franc and other currencies and threatened the monetary system. The monetary Grid set up in 1979 to bring stability to Exchange rates was considered crucial in moves toward permanently fixing the values of the monies and molding them into one Money. But now that the ministers have agreed to let the currencies temporarily move up and Down by 15 percent on either Side of a Central rate it May be impossible to reduce the margins any time soon.
