Stateside storm carrying blizzard toward upper Midwest Stormy winds continued across the Northwest Early thursday As gales that rocked Montana and Wyoming threatened to carry the season s first blizzard into the upper Midwest. The blizzard appeared headed for the Northern Border states moving from the Minnesota South Dakota line toward Northern Wisconsin. The heaviest Snow was expected along the Northwest flank of a storm system which extended from northeastern North Dakota toward Duluth in Eastern Minnesota. On the Southern Edge of the same storm sys tem scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Central and lower Mississippi Val Ley. In the Northeast Sharpy colder air was expected to return. Clouds covered Northern new York and ver Mont with Sunshine farther South. In the Southeast temperatures climbed in Flor Ida on thursday ending a rash of record lows Over the previous two Days. On wednesday fierce winds in Montana gusted to 90 Mph at Browning Cut Bank and Standford. In Wyoming they gusted to 80 Mph near wheat land and Bordeaux and to 70 Mph in Arlington. The Stormy winds also extended into parts of col Orado. Winds of up to 50 Mph damaged roofs and Power lines in the Yakima Valley of Washington state. Advisories for blowing dust were issued for the Columbia River Basin in Oregon and Washington. Particularly erratic swirling winds continued to plague firefighters in Southern California. Elsewhere rain fell from Eastern Texas to Loui Siana and from Central new England South to Del aware and Maryland.
